RESUMO

Objective: To investigated influence of socio-demographic, obstetric characteristics and also the emotional repercussions of the adolescent, her partner and her family on perinatal results of pregnant adolescents attempted at an University Hospital. Subjects and Method: Within an observational, transversal, comparative study, 720 pregnant adolescents, aging from 10 to 19 years old (mean = 17,2 Â 1,5 years), who gave birth at the Maternity of Hospital das ClÃnicas â Federal University of Pernambuco â Brazil, from January to December 2001, excluded those whose concept died intra-uterus, as well as those adolescents for whom birth weight or Apgar score were omitted from medical registration. Data have been collected from medical registration of the adolescent and her newborn, and also by an structured interview with pre-odified and pre-tested questions for closed answers, that took place at the internment room during mediate puerperium. Results: Characteristics were: first degree scholarship nconcluded (68,5%); co-habitation with a partner (72,6%), monthly familial income raising up to two or three minimal salaries (67,9%), aging at menarca, first intercourse and first pregnancy 12,8 Â 5,4 years old, 15,2 Â 4,6 years old and 16,2 Â 1,8 years old, respectively. More frequently the adolescents were primiparous (74,4%), had complete pre-natal (50,8%), and delivered within 37th and 41st gestational weeks (85,6%). Mean age of their partner was equal to 23,2 Â 7,4 years old and most of them did not complete first degree scholarship (61,2%). Low birth weight and Apgar score <7 were more frequent for adolescents aging ≤ 16 years old, with scholarship ≤ 1st degree, who inhabited with a partner, with no statistical difference to those with normal birth weight and Apgar scores. Concepts, whose mother did not complete pre-natal, as well as these prematures were born with significant lower birth weight, minor Apgar score at first minute and recuperation significantly smaller at fifth minute. Although there was no significant statistical difference, the author identified that adolescents who did not plan or accepted pregnancy and experienced rejection feelings from their partner gave birth to concepts with low birth weight and depressed. Within those adolescents who were rejected by their family, concepts had significant lowest birth weight. Conclusion: These results seem to indicate that one must increase the value of scholarship, marital condition and feelings related to pregnancy of the adolescent, her partner and her family, at pre-natal consultations, to get better obstetric results.
