RESUMO

Crude extract of different parts of Hyptis mutabilis obtained using solvent of different polarities were submitted to the anti-microbial screening against 21 microorganisms from Departmental collection and clinically isolated to select the one with largest activity for phytochemistry studies. For MIC determination the extracts that presented halos above 14 mm were selected. Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis were sensitive to most of the extracts. The extracts from leaf presented the largest inhibition halos. Among the clinical isolated, Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter sp (3 isolate) were inhibited by almost all of the plant extracts; Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae were resistant to all extracts. In the citotoxicity studies, only the methanolic extract presented inhibition of 50% of the cellular proliferation. This value was above the protocol adopted which considered active the plant extracts that inhibit 50% of the cellular proliferation in the concentrations minor or equal to 30 μg/mL. For determination of DL50, the preliminary and definitive assays of acute toxicity were accomplished. The toxicity was 250 mg/kg to the hexanic, 230 mg/kg for the methanolic, 150 mg/kg for the cold aqueous and 10mg/kg for the hot aqueous extracts, respectively. The antitumour activities were determined in animals using Ehrlich carcinoma and Sarcoma 180, with the hexanic, methanolic and cold and hot aqueous extracts. The last two presented 72% and 74% of inhibition for the Sarcoma 180 (150 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, respectively). The anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated with these same extracts. Among them the methanolic extract presented the best result in the dose of 230 mg/kg, reducing the paw edema in 64,3% when compared with the control group presenting differences statistically significant p<0,05. The phytochemical studies were realized using the hexanic extract of the leaf. Through chromatographic column over Silica gel using ciclohexane/EtOAc gradient elution system, followed by HPLC-MS two crystalline white substances were isolated, and their physicochemical characteristics and structures, were determinate. Its were identified as Ã-sitosterol and stigmasterol
