RESUMO

In the Federal sphere, the methodology to elaborate management plans for integral protection protected areas (PA) has its focus on terrestrial ecosystems. But the experience on elaborating these plans shows that the methodology has some gaps when applied to marine PA and need adjustments mainly in the way of establishing the zoning and the delimitation criteria. In this context, the present work introduces a case study on Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve, in Santa Catarina state, Brazil. In this Reserve zoning, it was established a distinct and superposed zone for each ecological zone: marine surface, a proposal is made pelagic zone and benthic zone. The three zoning levels conform the tridimensional environmental zoning (ZATRI), which increases the multiple use to the marine zones. From Arvoredos experience and the methodologys analysis was made a proposal of a series of new criteria to delimitate the tridimensional zoning. These criteria focus on incorporating social and environmental questions related to the ecosystem and the marine PA.
