Until middles of the decade of 50Âs, the affection was considered benign illness, when in the Phillipines (1953), the first one occasion of hemorrhagic affection appeared. 28 years later the great epidemic of FHD in Americas happened first (Cuba 1981). Since the beginning of the decade of 80Âs, Brazil has been registering simultaneous circulation of different type of virus of the affection, mainly the Den-1 and Den-2. In 2001 the Den-3 virus was isolated, in the State of Rio De Janeiro and in 2002 Brazil was facing an explosion of affection cases and of FHD. In the city of Recife, 35.597 cases of affection in this year had been notified, occurring 208 cases of FHD, of which, 14 had evolved for the death. The majority of the deaths occurred among men, with superior age the 20 years, originating Sanitary District VI and attended in the private hospitals. More frequent the general clinical manifestations had been the fever and the dehydration, followed of pain of body, nauseas and vomits. The hepatitis, with high levels of transaminases, occurred in the majority of the patients, who generally met anictÃrics. Ten patients (71%) had had some type of hemorrhagic manifestation, mainly digestive hemorrhage, nosebleed and pulmonary hemorrhage. The average values of the hematocryt and the 56,313 counting of platelets had been 40.7% and p/mm3, respectively. Of the fourteen analyzed cases, 11 had had the laboratorial confirmation of the infection for the virus of the affection. In eight cases the death elapsed of hemorrhagic phenomena, however, in the others 6 cases had not been identified significant bleeds
