RESUMO

This work analyzes the elements and perceptions related to the theme of the paradise in America or America as paradise in the contemporary literature of the continent, which differs from the main lines of approach in this area. My purpose was to know how the myth of lost paradise is translated into the creation of American (in a broader sense) identity itself is felt, read and reread in the contemporary aesthetic-literary imaginary. In other words, how this myth, present since the formation of the American continent, has been actualized by the work of memory in society nowadays. In order to pursue this study, two novels were selected: JoÃo Ubaldo Ribeiroâs O FeitiÃo da Ilha do PavÃo and Ãmile Ollivierâs Passages, that were analyze following the established perspective
