RESUMO

This essay regards items relevant to the Physical Education and Gerontologys field, as emphasized the importance of body culture, specially when the main focus is old age reality, the values and the experiences of the one who ages. Admitting the relevance of the social environment such as friendly spaces to different forms of individuality expression in the reconstruction of the group, showing the focus of this research, regarding the elderly and their participation in sporting activities, specially through games. The elaborated study, which main objective is to identify the representation and forms of the elderly in dealing with physical activities, particularly concerning cooperative games, is pond on the concept that aging must be investigated considering the need of its context and complexity, so it can be identified as each own singularity. In this sense, it enhances the importance of qualitative research to analyze the practice of the cooperative games with elderly and its relation with the process of human development. The main theory point, sustained by reflections regarding Physical Education, human movement, games, the process of aging and old age is based on elements that fundaments the field research, made through procedures of qualitative approach, using semi-structured observation and interviews as instruments of collect data. The selected subjects are seniors subscribed in the Programa de Atendimento à População Idosa - Elderly Program Attendance, from the Centro de Referência do Idoso, located in the city of Embu das Artes, in the state of São Paulo. The data analysis, based on theory fundaments, allowed to go further in the concept and meaning of the practice of sports, having the principle of cooperation. The results show, also, the importance of the elderly leaving together, in the challenge of leaving with differences and discovering itself as the character of intervention, responsible for changes in the building form of practicing sports, in particularly concerning games, creating different rules of participation, which reflects in their personal life and in the rescue and construction of new ways of interaction and social relations
