RESUMO

The Third Age population is increasing in different countries, including Brazil, where they are fighting for civil rights to be recognized and respected by the Brazilian society. However, those citizens still face preconceptions and obstacles for full social integration in Brazil. In our days, the ecotourism emerges as an attractive activity for social insertion of Brazilian Third Age citizens, depending on the availability of a suitable infrastructure in National Parks and State Parks, in order to be fitted to physical and sensorial capabilities of the Third Age people. In general terms, this question was treated as accessibility to the ecotourism, also involving formal aspects and of content of web sites related to ecotourism. The social and economical data on Brazilian Third Age citizens and ecotourism significance were obtained upon the bibliography review, as well as about legal restraints to ecotourism in Brazil. Additionally, the market significance of those people was discussed with managers of travel agencies specialized in ecotourism. Suggestions to improve the accessibility of the Third Age people in ecotourism places were obtained in the bibliography data and also visiting some Brazilian, Bolivian, Peruvian and Ecuadorian natural and conservation areas. Project conceptions and construction solutions for trails and lodgings are discussed, taking into account their compatibility with legal criteria that control the use of public places assigned to ecotourism in Brazil. Also, some aspects on web sites related to ecotourism are commented, in terms of their accessibility by the Third Age people. As a case study, some project recommendations for the rehabilitation of the trail Trilha do Silêncio to become usable by the Third Age citizens are presented. This trail is located at the Parque Estadual do Jaraguá, in the city of São Paulo. Considering the importance of ecotourism for social integration of the Third Age people, the places where ecotourism is practiced should offer an infrastructure adjusted to the physical and sensorial capabilities of those people. Finally, creative technological solutions compatible with the legal restrictions can be searched for the use of public places suitable to ecotourism by the Third Age citizens
