RESUMO

Introduction: The child development is one of the best indicators of child health, since it is related to a number of interconnected psychosocial factors. The day-care centers have been an excellent opportunities for development studies, whereas they have become an alternative to minimize the adverse conditions of children at risk situation. The day-care center educators may act as mediators of appropriate incentives that leverage the ability of each child, using ludic resources and the community itself. Objective: To search, in the literature, studies about the effects of the programs about psychosocial stimulation on the children development who attend day-care centers, and analyse the impact of educators training program in psychosocial stimulation on the childrenâs development who attend day-care centers of Recifeâs City Hall. Methods: This dissertation is divided in two chapters. The first chapter consists of a literature review regarding the effects of psychosocial stimulation programs on the children development who attend day-care centers. The second chapter is an original article regarding the impact of a program training of educators in psychosocial stimulation on the motor and mental development of children who attend day-care centers Recifeâs City Hall. Results: inspite of controversies whether a day-care center would have a protective effect or negative effects on child development, there is a consensus that offering a better quality services, with most appropriate incentives, encourage the learning process and motivate the child to interact with the environment. In developed countries, some programs of psychosocial stimulation performed in a day-care centers, intended for children at risk, have produced positive effects on child development. In this study, no significant effects were observed on the mental and motor development of children, even after training program of the educators of the Recifeâs day-care centers. Educators have been showing different points of view about working in the day-care centers, with the possibility of control group s of the day-care center offers better conditions of work. Nevertheless, it was observed and it is important to emphasize that approximately one third of educators, in both groups, had never done child developmentâs training. Conclusion: a psychosocial program stimulation would be extremely positive to the motor and mental development of children who attend day-care centers. However, we must have a quality service with a safe environment that allows children to have new discoveries, whereas qualified professionals that understand their role, which act in partnership with families promoting physical, mental and social comfort for these children
