RESUMO

An on-line preconcentration system for determination of Cd, Ni and Pb at ng mL leveI by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry was studied. A manifold with eleven solenoid valves controlled by a computer furnished with a PCL-711 Advantech interface was developed to system implementation. The concept of multicommutation was adopted by employing solenoid valves which were independent commutators so that it was possible to carry out preconcentration and elution steps simultaneously, since three ion exchange columns were included in the manifold. This approach allowed to reaching high analytical throughput because, during the elution step of one of the columns, the two others remained in the preconcentration step. Precise time control permitted obtaining an excellent reprodutibility of inserted volumes while sample and elution solution recycling was guaranteed by using solenoid valves. Evaluation of the system was done considering both FIA and ICP parameters to establish the best working conditions. The accuracy of the method was satisfactory since the obtained results presented agreement at the 95% confidence leveI with those of the certified reference materiaIs. The relative standard deviation was <4% and an analytical throughput of 90 h was reached.
