RESUMO

From the end of the decade of 1970, in Brazil, was normal among specialists in inheritance preservation speeches affirming success of the relation between inheritance safeguard and the participation of historical sustained sites inhabitants. Such this had shelter on the national political context, marked by the transition between the tyrant political system and the redemocracy, and also in the recommendations from inheritance preservation conventions and in the revitalization and recognition of degraded historical sites, in which âBolonhaâ experience, in Italy, detached in this focus of discussion. However, the insufficiency of researches in this direction stimulated the investigation about the relation safeguard â participation. Not incidentally, documental exploration showed the Olindaâs Historical Site as an experience with eminence in the latin-american scene of patrimonial preservation, as well as associative character with its inhabitants, becoming, so, study object. In this sense, the general objective of this research consist in having a reflection about the relation between Olindaâs Historical Site inhabitants participation in the preservation, in sense to understend on which degree this participation affirmed, or not, the safeguard process of this cultural stock. For the investigation, was choose by the dialogue knowledge fields of Urban Conservation, where was found a theoretical and practical scene institutional of patrimony preservation, and also from History, in which were taken in facts from the past the necessaries explanations to understand nowadays, how disciplines able to offer satisfactory assistance to documental investigation. Interpretation of primary and secondary founts allowed to be making three temporary focus. They were from 1964 to 1965, when existed the âMovimento da Ribeiraâ; the period of 1979 to 1981, when the reverberation of movements and campaigns of local inhabitants turned to the preservation of historical sites values joins the improvement of life quality, and, finally, the period of 1984 to 1992, when raised another mobilization of local inhabitants, following the same keeping causes. In this context, the emphasis was on the creation of co-operatives and inhabitants associations pledged in the formalization of movements identified and available for common interests â turned to the historical siteâs preservation good conditions of inhabitance. In the inference of this research, was identified that the participation of these inhabitants gave great contributions for the patrimonial preservation, but, it wasnât enough to guarantee the effective safeguard to this cultural stock
