RESUMO

This research investigates creativity in children’s education. The main subject of study is the teacher’s role as an agent supporting the students’ participation in creative processes. The investigation considers a historic overview of creativity studies in philosophy with particular attention to psychology contributions, emphasizing Brazilian publications. The methodology is qualitative and the data is processed through content analysis in an effort to fully understand the answers given by teachers to a questionnaire that investigated concepts, working methods and any other factors that prevent creativity in the classroom. The results clearly show that teachers know the concepts and work with methods compatible with the current environment despite the lack of resources and technical support. Revision of children’s education courses’ curriculum and investments in the children education professionals’ continuous education is recommended.
