RESUMO

This dissertation is the result of a qualitative research work particularly a case study geared towards the inference of an English as a Foreign Language Teachers specific beliefs, from a public school in Goiás, related to the teachers role in a formal learning environment and subsequent analysis of how the context, in which she is immersed, interferes into her actions and beliefs. By adopting an emic posture and by involving an interpretative approach, this study utilized various instruments for data collection, including: narratives, semi-structured interviews, class observation and field notes; trying to portray the participants perspective, focusing on the process and prioritizing a particular instance of an educational experience. The data obtained in this study proved to be able to answer the questions raised; in other words, through them we could see a little more about the English teacher`s beliefs related to an specific aspect the teachers role; and also contemplate possible contextual influences in his/her thoughts and attitudes.
