RESUMO

Inserted in the mathematical theory of the error correcting codes and, in particular, for coded modulation schemes using trellis codes based on lattices partitions, this thesis introduces the new concepts of special subsets and the norm-matrix GN, with the objective of proposing an efficient algorithm for the exhaustive search, and determination, of new optimum trellis codes. Some trellis codes structural properties are established, being proposed an equivalence class and an algorithm for determination of their weight spectra. Several examples with the proposed algorithms are presented in details, as well as an extensive list with new optimum q-ary trellis codes and corresponding code gains
