RESUMO

This work analyzes the changes happened in the carnival since its origin to the formation of the micaretas (carnivals out of time). An approach of power has been used, more specifically Pierre Bourdieuâs concepts and ideas. The methodological procedure adopted was the case study research, in the field level of the carnival in MaceiÃ, capital of Alagoas. The passage from a non-structured and amateur carnival, formed by neighborhood organizations, to a structured and professional carnival, dominated by big enterprises, has been accompanied by a fight among the actors for the fieldâs control and the right to transmit its interpretation of the party. The result of such fight has been a restructuring of the field, in that the valorization of a logic of the interest was, at the same time, cause and effect of the new actors emersion. The apparent of indifference of the traditional associations became exception, and the search for the profit, based on a business model, the rule. But those changes didn t have anything of inevitable. More than considerations of efficiency, the business form of organization has shown an instrument that, inside of the carnival, could guarantee the social distinction. As well as in the whole history, today the carnival is a moment of consolidation of the differences existent and/or created among men
