RESUMO

The objective of this research was to characterize the genetic and phenotypic diversities in aÃai palm (Euterpe oleracea) germplasm sampled in the Embrapa Eastern Amazon collection, through molecular markers and morphoagronomical traits. There were characterized 116 accessions from 26 origins by 28 RAPD and seven SSR primers. The 28 morphoagronomical traits were evaluated in 87 accessions from 21 origins, in the period from 1995 to 2001, at BelÃm, PA. Among the 28 traits, seven were relative to the plant, four to the flowering, six to the fruit, and eleven to the fruit production. The data were analyzed for accessions and origins. The molecular markers were analyzed using the complement of the Dice and simple matching similarity coefficients, displayed in dendrograms, and also by analysis of molecular variance. The morphoagronomical traits were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis, involving principal components, using the average euclidian distance with standardized data. The accessions and the origins presented wide diversity. A total of 263 polymorphic RAPD loci were detected, and the SSR loci revealed 42 alleles with PIC 0.75. The genetic diversity was quantified by RAPD markers, mainly based on interloci origin, and by SSR markers based on intraloci origin. Using these markers the accessions and origins were groupped by UPGMA criterion. According to AMOVA results significant levels of genetic differentiation were due to among origins by the two molecular markers, however most of the variation was observed within origins. The phenotypic diversity was estimated using 78.57% of the morphoagronomical traits, and those discarded did no represent any lost of information. The molecular markers were complementary to each other in the explanation of the genetic diversity, but both disagree in relation to the phenotypic diversity. The low correlations between geographic distances and genetic and phenotypic distances do not explain the germplasm diversity by the geographic distribution.
