RESUMO

For a great number, if not the totality, of cultures in the world, the word Song implies a nuclear, basic and familiar modality of art expression. Notwithstanding that, it becomes vague the scientific delimitation of such an object. Semiotic inquiry usually approaches Song as a two-element field: music and lyrics. Definitions, however, include elements which belong to other arts and contexts. And so the true nature of Song remains an unanswered question. This study proposes an ontological model for Song, using as its main conceptual tools the General Theory of Systems and the General Theory of Signs, the latter according to C. S. Peirce s ideas
