RESUMO

Objective: To describe perinatal and obstetric characteristics of pregnant women, with ultrasound placental early aging (PEA). Patients and Methods: According to a retrospective, descriptive, series of cases, including 146 pregnant women, who have been interned at Maternidade Prof. Monteiro de Moraes, Recife, Pernambuco â Brazil, from January 2000 to December 2002, with diagnose of PEA, comparing: group I (G1) (106 patients with clinical and obstetric complications - COC), to group II (G2) (40 pregnant women, without COC). PEA was considered as the presence of placenta grade II before 32nd gestational week (GW), or grade III, before 35th GW. Results: They were predominantly nuliparous (77⇒52,7%), aging from 12 to 41 years old. Early aging placenta grade III before 32nd GW was diagnosed for 22,2% cases and grade II before 28th GW, for 23,4% cases, predominantly in G1. Oligoamnion (27,3%), IURG (44,3%) and elective caesarean (36,8%) were diagnosed in G1. Haemodynamic fetal profile alteration (10/51 cases =19,6%) and fetal deaths occurred in G1, on which concepts were premature (58,8% versus 40% in G2), maintained significantly more depressed than those of G2; weighted at birth less than 2500g (67,9% versus 40%); small to gestation age (39,2% versus 10%) and with more serious intercurrences. Conclusions: Perinatal prognosis was better for concepts of mothers without COC
