RESUMO

The UFC is subjected to the National System of Evaluation of Higher Education - SINAES, composed of three macro-steps: self-evaluation, external evaluation and assessment of student performance, informing the MEC data to guide decision making for the establishment of public policies to the expansion and improvement of Higher Education in Brazil. The interest of this study deals with the step of the process of self-evaluation in which the academic community evaluated the institution in certain dimensions. The aim of this research was to diagnose post-graduate (stricto sensu) courses of the UFC, with respect to the specific dimensions from the assessment of students, using information collected in the evaluation process. The research on indicators used in the instrument completed by students was the main methodological procedure adopted, and was supported by documentary analysis of the material published by the Ministry of Education, through the INEP and the UFCÂs Project for institutional Self Assessment and the Final Report. The data analysis procedures adopted to describing statistical information obtained by questionnaire applied via the internet. The period of data gathering happened during the months March to July 2006. The public reached in the investigation of the instruments totaled 71 students in masters and doctoral courses. The database was released and imported into the SPSS program, which provided the systematization of responses through graphs and tables. The main results showed that there is a need to face challenges of institutional reform of the actions offered by coordination of the stricto sensu, and the organization and integration between the disciplines that have shown problems in the assessment of the course. The teacher performance was evaluated as positive, considering the particularities of the two levels (master and doctor)
