RESUMO

Nowadays in the corporative world, terms such as quality, competitiveness, globalization and performance improvement are commonly used; these concepts have already crossed the limits of companies and have became clichés for the whole society. In terms of management this fact demonstrates that paths are strongly linked to the development of new ideas; whenever they present good fundamentals they seek to guarantee the desired development for companies, State and society. The break of frontiers and the complexity of commercial relations among countries have brought about a new reality in which the tendency of similarities among products and services has pointed a new level for discussion on quality, competitiveness and organizational results focusing on excellence seeking strategies. It will be used criteria from the National Fundation of Quality "F.N.Q" due to its postulated world-known concepts. The latter have been translated into practices found in world-class organizational leaders in order to analyze the efficiency and adjustment of the excellence fundamentals to the retail area, where will be verified the affirmation that services excellence is the great competitive differential in this sector
