RESUMO
From a case study this work analyzes how sustainable the productive chain of the cantaloups in the region of the Agropolo Lower Jaguaribe/Cearà is, under the optics of the systemic analysis with approach in regional and local development. The productive chain approach allows a holistic vision of the system, making it possible to understand the potentialities and inefficiencies. The methodology used in this work accepts as valid the hypothesis of the consumer sovereignty, according to which the product quality is defined by the point of view of the market. This approach shows the inherent factors of the competitiveness by means of the market structure and the logistic of transports and the process of technological modernization inside of the productive chain as well as the actions the State and Federal Government, based on the demands of the final customer. An important trend observed in this industry is that larger cantaloups producers keep the technological and commercial leadership by reorganizing the productive chain of cantaloups by means of outsourcing. As the agro-industry mounts this structure, more favorable conditions are created to keep the stability of the production of cantaloupes. Thus, great part of the coordination of the production and commercialization is directly or indirectly related to the problem of the associated secular adequacy to the after-harvest infrastructure. Therefore, the variations in the stability of offer and in the costs of its preservation are decisively important for the organization of the transactions
