RESUMO

Maintenance turnarounds on industrial plants is an activity that strongly influences the business results of an oil refinery. So, the management of turnarounds should be analyzed under a strategic approach. Among the activities of maintenance that are carried through during a turnaround, the most important involve maintenance jobs on static equipments such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, distillation columns and furnaces, that typically represent the biggest amount of financial expanses. These activities are carried through by contractors companies, and their performance directly affects the results of a turnaround. Therefore, it is of the interest of the refiners to know better the factors that affect the performance of these companies in a turnaround. This work presents the result of a survey about the factors that influence the performance of contracted companies on turnarounds on the Landulpho Alves refinery UN RLAM - PETROBRAS between January 2005 and August 2006. The research disclosed factors that influence these results and suggests recommendations to be adopted by the refinery and the companies in the search for a better performance on maintenance turnarounds.
