RESUMO

This project aims at understanding how designers use folk xilogravura images â Brazilian woodblock prints â in graphic design projects and their relation to local identity, in the context of globalization. Prizing the elements of culture, the xilogravura language in particular, has been widely used in design projects as will be shown in this research, where projects use the themes and shapes characteristic of this language as a means to create a connection with the local roots. The research was done considering the look on folk xilogravura, the graphic design projects that use its images as well as the designersâ project methodology. Nevertheless, the focal object of this study is the designerâs as work influenced by the images of folk xilogravura. The study was guided by the research problem, which sought to find out how designers utilize the language of xilogravuras in design projects, and amid the result findings, is the conclusion that the designer takes on a paradoxical role when facing the academic methodologies and the empirical doing in order to create projects that value and identify with the local culture
