RESUMO

ABSTRACT Supported by the Language Sciences and Work Sciences, this dissertation aims at: investigating how the institutional prescriptions influence on the professors performance in the classroom and checking how the auto-prescriptions dialogue with the institutional prescriptions. Our data were composed after oral texts (shooting of four English classes of an English Language Professor in a Portuguese-English graduation course, shooting of the professors comments while she saw herself at work (adaptation to the simple auto-confrontation method) and interviews, in their previous and posterior modalities) and written texts (the institutional curricula, ruling writings and activities used by the professor (Work writings). From Language Sciences we resorted to the notion of interdiscourse (Maingueneau) as a major category of analysis. In order to grasp it, we made use of categories such as modality (Cervoni; Moirand), interruption (Souza-a-Silva &Crescitelli) and deixis (Maingueneau). We also based our research on the work writings research (Boutet; Souza-e-Silva). From the Work Sciences we resorted to notions from Activity Ergonomy (Amigues), Ergology (Schwartz) and Clinique de l activité (Clot ; Faïta). The results showed the strength of institutional prescriptions as a means to generate new work writings and of the auto-prescriptions as catalytic elements for the use of oneself. Our results revealed, above all, things that the professor herself cannot see but which her discourse will tell
