RESUMO
This research considers a study of the teaching the literature reading in school, and as subjects of research, a group of pupils of the basic education from a public school in the town of Senador Canedo, Goiás, a less favored economically city. This work is not only justified by the literature importance because it has the potential to enhance human characteristics in people, but the issue assigned to the social historical context where in which the research readers individual and collective tastes. The work was developed in four parts: in the first chapter a reflection consists on horizontes of the reading and literature. In the second part it has the description of the theories of the literary reading. In the third part it has presenting a panorama of the methodology used in the inquiry, the involved citizens in the research and the context in which the work and the fourth part was carried through has an exposition of a practical application of the reading of literature in pupils of public schools, using the contação of histories as an option for the formation of the reader.
