RESUMO

The subject of this work is investigate the presence of the character José Dias at the construction of Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis, from the point of view that it is not only a co-star but even an implication of Casmurro in this opera romance through the interference of his direct speech, while determining the action of Bentinho under the active influence inside the mind of the author and narrator casmurro. The dramatic strengh of the work supported by rhetoric strategies alternated between the showing and telling (Booth) is even responsible for the continuous flow of Dom Casmurro`s inside dialogueto reach this goal of constructing again the image of the lodger Josè dias
