RESUMO
This research aims the analysis of the contribution of Sociology on the formation of educators considering the demands and characteristics of knowledge society. This happens because the challenge of higher education, according to DRUCKER (1993, p.153), is rethinking the role and function of schooling of undergraduation courses: their focus, purpose and values. As changes directly affect peoples lives, their social, work, power and economic relations, the educator needs to understand these changes, clarify and make students conscious as citizens that conquer their rights and participate actively in the social, economic and political order of their society. PUCPR, concerned in fulfilling these requirements, started in 2000 a change in the guidance of its teaching activities. Thus a new pedagogical project involving all undergraduation courses was introduced. Having in mind the concern of efficiently collaborating with these transformations, we have inquired teachers and students of the Education College and their view about these changes and we have verified what were the contributions of Sociology to this situation. From the analysis of the data contained on the questionnaires and of the investigated theoretical referential, we have verified the importance of Sociology on the education of critical and participative educators, as education is an element of social life.
