1. The use of Arthrospira platensis in rearing Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in salt water

4. Role of pH on antioxidants production by Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis
Abstract Algae can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions but extreme conditions may lead to the generation of highly dangerous reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may cause the deterioration of cell metabolism and damage cellular components. The antioxidants produced by algae alleviate the harmful effects of ROS. While the enhancement of antioxidant

5. Effect of Gamma Radiation on Growth and Metabolic Activities of Arthrospira platensis
This work aimed to study the influence of gamma radiation on the growth and production of some active substances of Arthrospira platensis. Biomass production was significantly inhibited (p ≤ 0.05) by 21 and 34%, with respect to the control at 2.0 and 2.5 kGy, respectively. Chlorophyll-a content showed 11% reduction at 2.5 kGy compared to the control. As a

6. GROWTH AND COMPOSITION OF Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis IN A TUBULAR PHOTOBIOREACTOR USING AMMONIUM NITRATE AS THE NITROGEN SOURCE IN A FED-BATCH PROCESS
AbstractNH4NO3 simultaneously provides a readily assimilable nitrogen source (ammonia) and a reserve of nitrogen (nitrate), allowing for an increase in Arthrospira platensis biomass production while reducing the cost of the cultivation medium. In this study, a 22plus star central composite experimental design combined with response surface methodology was em

7. Production of phycobiliproteins by Arthrospira platensis under different lightconditions for application in food products
There has been an increase in investment in research on new sources of natural pigments for food application. Some cyanobacteria can change the structures responsible for light harvesting and cellular processes according to the wavelength and light intensity. This phenomenon has been described as complementary chromatic adaptation. The present study aimed

8. Biomass production by Arthrospira platensis under different culture conditions
In biotechnological processes, the culture media components are responsible for high costs and exert a strong influence on the cyanobacteria behavior. The objective of this study was to evaluate the Arthrospira platensis growth potential for biomass production under different cultivation conditions using an experimental design. Three factors that are importa

10. Avaliação da utilização do dióxido de carbono proveniente da fermentação alcoólica no cultivo de Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis: uso simultâneo de nitrato de sódio e sulfato de amônio como fontes de nitrogênio em fotobiorreator aberto / Evaluation of the use of carbon dioxide from alcoholic fermentation on Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis cultivation: simultaneous use of sodium nitrate and ammonium sulphate as nitrogen sources in open photobioreactor
The main objective of this work was the evaluation of the potential of using carbon dioxide from alcoholic fermentation on Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis cultivation, aiming to prove the feasibility of applying an effluent gas in the production of high added-value microbial biomass. In order to do so, the cyanobacterium was cultivated in laboratorial-scal

11. Evaluation of cytotoxicity and biological activities in extracellular polysaccharides released by cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis
The aim of this work was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of Arthrospira platensis Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) for colon cancer and kidney cell lines. Results showed that EPS were free from cytotoxic effects. A variety of solvents were assessed for their ability to extract the bioactive ingredients from EPS. Methanol gave the highest yield (75.75%)
