13. AvaliaÃÃo toxicolÃgica prÃ-clÃnica do Ãleo de Carapa guianensis Aublet.
Carapa guianensis (Meliaceae), a typical tree from amazon region, is popularly known as Andiroba. Its seed oil is used as anti-inflammatory, analgesic and insect repellent. Although C. guianensis is largely used by people, there are no studies concerning its toxicity. In this way, the aim of this work was to evaluate the safety of the C. guianensis seed oil

14. OrÃamento participativo em Alagoinhas-Ba (2001-2005): um instrumento pedagÃgico de cidadania?
This paper seeks to analyze the process of implementation of the Participative Budget in Alagoinhas- BA (2001-2005). The historic molding of the practice of citizenship in Brazil imposed an anti-participation of the popular classes and of the different social subjects including the political class and the civil society that has been facing a new form of admi

18. Inflammatory myopathy, bronchiolitis obliterans/organizing pneumonia, and anti-Jo-1 antibodies--an interesting association.
We report an interesting association of inflammatory myopathy, characterized pathologically as dermatomyositis, with bronchiolitis obliterans/organizing pneumonia and anti-histidyl-tRNA synthetase (Jo-1) antibody. The relations of different types of pulmonary involvement to inflammatory myopathy and antisynthetase antibodies are discussed.

19. A mammalian tRNAHis-containing antigen is recognized by the polymyositis-specific antibody anti-Jo-1.
The mammalian cell antigen reactive with the autoantibody anti-Jo-1 has been shown to contain tRNAHis. The RNA sequence of this human and mouse cell tRNA was determined in a search for unusual features that might be related to antigenicity. The 5' terminal nucleotide is unique among other sequenced tRNAs in that it is a methylated guanine. The presence of th

20. Colchicine protects mice from the lethal effect of an agonistic anti-Fas antibody
The aim of this study was to determine whether colchicine, which has been reported to protect against various hepatotoxic insults, influences the susceptibility of mice to the agonistic anti-Fas antibody, Jo2. All mice that were pretreated with colchicine (2 mg/kg) survived the lethal challenge of intraperitoneal administration of 10 μg of Jo2, whereas all

21. Anti-KJ: a new antibody associated with the syndrome of polymyositis and interstitial lung disease.
Antibodies to aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (anti-Jo-1, anti-PL-7, anti-PL-12) have been found in the serum of some patients with polymyositis (PM). Patients with these antibodies have an unusually high rate of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in association with their PM. Two patients (K.J. and B.T.) with severe ILD and PM were found to have antibodies to a cyt

22. Origin and regulation of a disease-specific autoantibody response. Antigenic epitopes, spectrotype stability, and isotype restriction of anti-Jo-1 autoantibodies.
Anti-Jo-1 antibodies (AJoA), which bind to and inhibit the activity of histidyl-transfer RNA synthetase (HRS), are found in a genetically and clinically distinct subset of myositis patients. This specificity suggests that understanding the antigenic epitopes and immunoregulation governing the production of AJoA may result in clues to disease pathogenesis. Li

23. Autoantibody and idiotype profile of lung involvement in autoimmune rheumatic disease.
Several reports have linked the presence of certain serum autoantibodies with particular clinical manifestations of autoimmune disease. For example, the Jo-1 antibody is now established as a marker for fibrosing alveolitis in polymyositis. To investigate the possible association of further autoantibodies or idiotypes with fibrosing alveolitis in autoimmune r

24. Anti-human immunodeficiency virus type 1 antibodies of noninfected subjects are not related to autoantibodies occurring in systemic diseases.
Indeterminate Western blot (WB) (immunoblot) patterns for anti-human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) antibodies are often observed when testing serum samples from noninfected individuals. We investigated here the possible involvement of some frequently occurring autoantibodies (anti-SmB/B', U1snRNP [68 kDa, A, and C], Ro/SS-A [60 and 52 kDa], and Jo-1)
