1. Changes in digestive enzymes activities during the initial ontogeny of wolf cichlid, Parachromis dovii (Perciformes: Cichlidae)
ABSTRACT Wolf cichlid, Parachromis dovii, is a species with a high potential for aquaculture in Central America; however, the knowledge of the digestive physiology in larvae period is limited. For these reason, this study evaluated the changes on digestive enzymes (alkaline and acid proteases, trypsin, chymotrypsin, aminopeptidase, carboxypeptidase, lipases,

2. Anthocephalus cadamba (Roxb.) Miq., Rubiaceae, extract shows hypoglycemic effect and eases oxidative stress in alloxan-induced diabetic rats
The hydroethanolic extract of the flowering tops of Anthocephalus cadamba (Roxb.) Miq., Rubiaceae, a Bangladeshi medicinal plant, was studied for its potential hypoglycemic effect and antioxidant property in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The extract induced significant reduction in serum glucose, and transaminases, e.g. aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine

3. Phosphate solubilization potential and phosphatase activity of rhizospheric Trichoderma spp.
Trichoderma sp., a well known biological control agent against several phytopathogens, was tested for its phosphate (P) solubilizing potential. Fourteen strains of Trichoderma sp. were isolated from the forest tree rhizospheres of pinus, deodar, bamboo, guava and oak on Trichoderma selective medium. The isolates were tested for their in-vitro P-solubilizing

4. Bioindicadores de qualidade de solo em diferentes ecossistemas
Changes due to soil management and cultivated plant species may influence carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycling. Cycling depends on the integration of physical, chemical and mainly microbiological processes. This work assessed some microbial activity and processes related to carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles in soil from six ecosystems in Guarapuava,

5. Histology and histochemistry of the venom apparatus of the black scorpion Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807) (Scorpiones: Buthidae)
The venom apparatus of the black scorpion Androctonus crassicauda has been characterized histologically and histochemically in the present study. The results showed that this apparatus consists of paired venom glands, each of which initially presents its own canal and posteriorily both fuse into a single common one. Each gland is covered by a sheath of stria

6. In vitro modulation of alkaline phosphatase activity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae grown in low or high phosphate medium
Our objective was to characterize the modulation of the activity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae alkaline phosphatases (ALPs) by classic inhibitors of ALP activity, cholesterol and steroid hormones, in order to identify catalytic similarities between yeast and mammalian ALPs. S. cerevisiae expresses two ALPs, coded for by the PHO8 and PHO13 genes. The product of

7. Influência da temperatura e de aditivos na matriz fosfolipídica usada para incorporação de fosfatases alcalinas pela técnica de Langmuir-Blodgett / Influence of the temperature and adtives in phospholipidic matrix utilized to Alkaline Phosphatases incorporation by Langmuir-Blodgett tecnique
ABSTRACT Alkaline phosphatases (AP) are unspecific enzymes that hydrolyze phosphate esthers. In this Dissertation we have studied the adsorption of two forms of AP in phospholipid Langmuir monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett films, considered as biomembrane models, at different temperatures. Further, the effect of the presence of a disaccharide, trehalose, as w

8. Indicadores de qualidade do solo sob sistema de produção agrícola convencional em conversão para agroecológico
Microbial and biochemical indicators of soil quality, mainly those related to carbon and nitrogen cycling, are useful to access the effect of soil management and its effects on the sustainability of the agroecosystems. The aim of this work was to access changes occurring in the soil due to the transition from conventional to agroecological agricultural syste

9. Perfil de atividade da proteína tirosina fosfatase de baixa massa molecular relativa e da fosfatase ácida resistente ao tartarato em osteoblastos humanos durante o ciclo e diferenciação celular / Low molecular weight protein tyrosine phosphatase and tartrate resistant acide phosphatase activity in human osteoblasts during cell cycle and differentiation
Low molecular weight protein tyrosine phosphatase (LMW-PTP) and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity were determined in hFOB 1.19 human osteoblasts cell line during cell proliferation and differentiation. LMW-PTP and TRAP enzymatic activity were determined at 6, 18, 24, 36, 48 and 72 hours after fetal calf serum stimulation of subconfluent cul

10. Aspectos bioquÃmicos e fisiolÃgicos do acÃmulo de polifosfato inorgÃnico por Cunninghamella elegans
Inorganic polyphosphate (PolyP) is a homopolymer of phosphate linked by phosphoanhydride bonds, first indentified a hundred years ago. This molecule is ubiquitous in nature, suggesting the PolyP envolvement in important metabolics process. The fungi are a very important group of organism showing a large application for various biotechnology areas. Despite of

The aim of this work was to evaluate the physiological, biochemical and ultrastructural aspects of C. elegans grown in copper presence. The growth profile was obtained by using biomass yields, glucose and phosphate consumption and pH. The polyphosphate profile, phosphatases activities and metal remotion were also studied. The results revealed the copper effe

12. Purification and properties of two membrane alkaline phosphatases from Bacillus subtilis 168.
Two alkaline phosphatases were extracted from the membranes of Bacillus subtilis 168 stationary-phase cells and purified as homogeneous proteins by hydroxyapatite column chromatography. Alkaline phosphatases I and II differed in several properties such as subunit molecular weight, substrate specificity, thermostability, Km, pH stability, and peptide maps.
