RESUMO

The current work named A historic- spatial analysis of the hostel industry in the main urban nucleus of Florianopolis (SC) contains the results of a research that seeks to comprise the implications of urban and tourist expansion of the city towards the increasing of the hotel sector located in the main urban nucleus. The research function imposed the definition of a theorical referential appropriate to the city and tourist flows increasing process, in order to favor the apprehension of the natural and human elements definers of the total investigated reality. This way, the proposed categories by Milton Santos- pattern, function, structure and process- were applied in the study of the characteristics of the Florianópolis urban nucleus, interpreted as the result of the accumulation of times in a natural basis. The study emphasizes the urban area as a product of the social relations determined and it includes a portion of the urban area of the capital of Santa Catarina, which has been passing through a fast process of changes historically imposed by the city increasing. The research on the hotel industry located downtown is the main focus of the work, bringing up its origins and the main sector characteristics, as well as, its relation to the city expansion. As we can realize in many different history periods of the city, the hospitality was a need for those who arrived here and the hospitality industry accompanied the city development. The study area encompasses the insular area of the west part of Morro da Cruz in a triangular way, delimitated by the North and South bays and by Mauro Ramos Avenue, which has the Hercílio Luz bridge, as one of its edges. As mentioned by IBGE (2004), Florianópolis has 369.102 inhabitants and its urban nucleus holds 23 hotels. Its socio- spatial organization has passed through some changes with the time, which resulted in changes in the original urban area and in the incorporation of new places. The consideration on the increasing of peoples needs stimulated the incorporation of new urban services reflecting on the city configuration, mainly on the central nucleus, linked to the estate, the regional and national contexts.
