1. Prevalence of tuberculosis respiratory symptoms and associated factors in the indigenous populations of Paraguay (2012)
BACKGROUND The prevalence of respiratory symptoms and confirmed tuberculosis (TB) among indigenous groups in Paraguay is unknown. METHODS This study assessed the prevalence of respiratory symptoms, confirmed pulmonary TB, and associated socio-economic factors among indigenous Paraguayan populations. Indigenous persons residing in selected communities wer

2. Comparison of the physicochemical profiles of buriti from the Brazilian Cerrado and the Amazon region
Abstract Demand for native fruits has been expanding, due to the increasing interest in foods with possible health benefits. The buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L. f.) is a native Brazilian fruit, appreciated by local populations, and its products are already on the market. This study investigated the physical characteristics and nutritional composition of buriti

3. First record of Hesperolabops nigriceps Reuter (Hemiptera: Miridae) on Opuntia ficus-indica in Milpa Alta, Mexico City
In recent years a species of Hesperolabops has become a problem as a pest of nopalitos, Opuntia ficus-indica, in Milpa Alta, in the south of Mexico City, which is the most important production region of this vegetable in the country. A survey of Hesperolabops in Milpa Alta has resulted in the first report of Hesperolabops nigriceps Reuter. This occurrence sh

4. Susceptibilidade de Tribolium castaneum ao óleo essencial de mostarda e persperctivas de manejo de resistência / Susceptibility of Tribolium castaneum to essential oil of mustard and perspectives resistance management
In this work, we studied the toxicity of mustard oil to 18 populations of Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) collected in Brazil, and the correlation with their resistance and phosphine. There is relationship between toxicity of mustard oil and respiratory rate; we were seeking evidence that would be determinant of susceptibility to mustard oil.

5. Isotopical analysis of the diet and subsistence patterns of pre-historical huntergatherer groups from Central Brazil / Reconstituição da dieta e dos padrões de subsistência das populações pré-históricas de caçadores-coletores do Brasil Central através da ecologia isotópica
Research in the field of isotopic ecology applied to archaeology has been in constant development for the past two decades, however only a few studies had been made towards this area in Brazil. This study has the objective of generating data to test two contrasting models regarding the strategies of subsistence used by pre-historical societies of Central Bra

The present dissertation discusses about the pre-historic occupation at São Luís Island-Maranhão, from the archaeological study realized at Bacanga Shell Mound, that appointed material vestiges of the fishing-collecting-hunters and ceramists populations that settled in the region, around 6.600 years before present and remained living this settlement until

7. Sociocultural actiives, figurations, power and differentiation in Bico, Cuiamucu and Canela-Fina - amazon communities / Praticas socioculturais, poder e diferenciação em Bico, Cuiamucu e Canela-Fina - comunidades amazonicas
The study was made of three communities of the county of Boa Vista do Ramos, AM, 270 km from Manaus as the crow flies but 367 km by river. The trip from Manaus to Boa Vista takes 16 to 17 hours. From the city hall to Bicó, Cuiamucu and Canela-Fina it takes another two hours by motor canoe. Fictitious names for the communities studied were chosen to conceal

8. Composição, abundância e dinâmica reprodutiva e alimentar de populações de peixes de um reservatório recém-formado (UHE - Capim Branco I / MG)
The loss of diversity is one of the main damage to the environment caused by the construction of reservoirs and it is related to the disappearance of terrestrial habitats by flooding, and the changes produced in the aquatic habitat. These changes reflect, above all, in the availability of food and in the reproduction of the fish species, leading to a remarka

10. BIOATIVIDADE DE EXTRATOS VEGETAIS NO CONTROLE DE Sitophilus oryzae (LINNÉ, 1763) EM ARROZ / BIOACTIVITY OF VEGETABLE EXTRACTS ON THE CONTROL OF Sitophilus oryzae (LINNÉ, 1763) IN RICE
The continuous growth of the world population, intensive competition among humans and plant pests for the same food sources, the resistence to existing inseticides by some insects and the persistence of residues in the environment and food created the necessity for new insecticides. In this research field, vegetable species appear as a promising source of ne

11. Integração das estratégias de controle químico e biológico para a conservação e liberação dos ácaros predadores Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) e Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) em programas de manejo do ácaro rajado Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) / Integration of chemical and biological control strategies for preserving and releasing Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) and Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) in Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) management programs
The exploitation of predaceous mites to manage phytophagous mites in agricultural production systems can be affected by the use of pesticides for controlling other pests and diseases. The use of pesticides that are compatible with predaceous mites or pesticide-resistant strains can promote the conservation of these natural enemies. Another strategy to be exp

12. Incorporação de ácidos graxos trans e seus efeitos em diferentes fases do crescimento de ratos / Trans fatty acids incorporation and its effects in different phases of rat growth
Clinical, epidemiological and experimental evidences certify the role of trans fatty acids in the genesis of non-transmissible chronic diseases. The atherogenic effects of trans fatty acids produced by industrialization process are well known in adult subjects. However, little is known about its effects on maternal-infantile and infantile-juvenile population
