13. Application of a composite ultrafiltration membrane for biodiesel purification
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to investigate the potentialities of the application of membrane technology in biodiesel purification without need of the decantation step. A new composite UF membrane was prepared from poly(vinylidene fluoride) casting solution (17 wt%) containing a sulfonated Carbon (20 wt%). The assays were performed in a dead-end filtr

14. Screening and Binding Analysis of Flavonoids with Alpha-Amylase Inhibitory Activity from Lotus Leaf
Lotus leaf is gaining growing popularity due to its various benefits and widely usage. In this paper, ten flavonoids in lotus leaf extract were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Centrifugal ultrafiltration combined liquid chromatography was used to screen alpha-amylase inhibitors from ten flavonoids mixture and the binding degrees ra

15. Water Permeability Increase in Ultrafiltration Cellulose Acetate Membrane Containing Silver Nanoparticles
Inorganic nanoparticles incorporation in polymer membranes for filtration processes has attracted the attention of researchers in order to improve in some ways their performance. In this work, AgNPs were synthesized "in situ" in cellulose acetate (CA) membrane by chemical reduction of a silver salt. The membranes were prepared by the nonsolvent induced phase

16. Fractionation of Apis mellifera venom by means of ultrafiltration: removal of phospholipase A 2
Abstract The fractionation of apitoxin (bee venom) by means of a commercial 10 kDa ultrafiltration membrane was investigated aiming at the removal of phospholipase A2, the main allergenic substance. The feed content was varied from 1 to 50 g apitoxin/L, in deionized water, and caused changes in membrane flux and rejection, due to concentration polarization.

17. Analysis of fouling and juice quality in crossflow ultrafiltration of watermelon juice
Abstract Raw watermelon juice was clarified in a laboratory scale flat plate ultrafiltration system incorporating polyethersulphone membranes with a molecular weight cut-off of 50 kDa. The experiments have been carried out over a wide range of trans-membrane pressures (1-3 bar). The effect of ultrafiltration with molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of 50 kDa PES

19. Analysis of Composite Membranes in the Separation of Emulsions Sunflower oil/water
Oil is a major pollutant of water resources, affects aquatic life, causing environmental degradation. Currently there is an increase in studies of membrane applied to separation of oil-water. Among these membranes, there are composite membranes, which show as main characteristic an association of organic and inorganic membrane properties. In a tangential flo

20. Oil Removal from Produced Water by Ultrafiltration using Polysulfone Membrane
Abstract The present paper deals with the ultrafiltration (UF) of produced water using a polysulfone membrane. Membranes were prepared by the phase inversion technique using polysulfone (PSf) polymer base, poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) additive and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent. Prepared UF membranes were characterized by determining the surface morpho

24. Composition and biological activities of the aqueous extracts of three scleractinian corals from the Mexican Caribbean: Pseudodiploria strigosa, Porites astreoides and Siderastrea siderea
Abstract Background: Scleractinian corals (stony corals) are the most abundant reef-forming cnidarians found in coral reefs throughout the world. Despite their abundance and ecological importance, information about the diversity of their toxins and their biological activities is very scarce. In this study, the chemical composition and the biological activit
