1. In silico prediction of the functional and structural consequences of the non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism A122V in bovine CXC chemokine receptor type 1

2. Nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferase of Trypanosoma cruzi (TcNMNAT): a cytosol protein target for serine kinases
Nicotinamide/nicotinate adenine dinucleotide (NAD+/NaAD) performs essential functions in cell metabolism and energy production due to its redox properties. The nicotinamide/nicotinate mononucleotide adenylyltransferase (NMNAT, EC 2.7.7.1/18) enzyme catalyses the key step in the biosynthesis of NAD+. Previously, the enzyme NMNAT was identified in Trypanosoma

3. THE CASE OF INCA´S NATIONAL TUMOR BANK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN BRAZIL
Information Technologies can provide the basis for new directions in cancer research, supplying tools that identify subtle but important signs from the analysis of clinical, behavioral, environmental and genetic data. The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze the system developed for managing Banco Nacional de Tumores (SISBNT) - National Tumor Ban

4. Auxílio na prevenção de doenças crônicas por meio de mapeamento e relacionamento conceitual de informações em biomedicina / Support in the Prevention of Chronic Diseases by means of Mapping and Conceptual Relationship of Biomedical Information
Genomic medicine has suggested that the exposure to risk factors since conception may influence gene expression and consequently induce the development of chronic diseases in adulthood. Scientific papers bringing up these discoveries indicate that epigenetics must be exploited to prevent diseases of high prevalence, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes

5. Translational selection on SHH genes
Codon usage bias has been observed in various organisms. In this study, the correlation between SHH genes expression in some tissues and codon usage features was analyzed by bioinformatics. We found that translational selection may act on compositional features of this set of genes.

6. Quantification of microRNAs in the central nervous system : implications / Quantificação de diferentes microRNAs no sistema nervoso central : implicações nos mecanismos de desenvolvimento e processos fisiopatologicos
MicroRNAs are a new class of small RNA molecules (21-24 nucleotide-long) that negatively regulate gene expression either by translational repression or target mRNA degradation. It is believed that about 30% of all human genes are targeted by these molecules. MiRNAs are involved in many important biological processes including cell differentiation, embryonic

7. Translational bioinformatics applications in genome medicine
Although investigators using methodologies in bioinformatics have always been useful in genomic experimentation in analytic, engineering, and infrastructure support roles, only recently have bioinformaticians been able to have a primary scientific role in asking and answering questions on human health and disease. Here, I argue that this shift in role toward

8. ELM server: a new resource for investigating short functional sites in modular eukaryotic proteins
Multidomain proteins predominate in eukaryotic proteomes. Individual functions assigned to different sequence segments combine to create a complex function for the whole protein. While on-line resources are available for revealing globular domains in sequences, there has hitherto been no comprehensive collection of small functional sites/motifs comparable to

9. BioAfrica's HIV-1 Proteomics Resource: Combining protein data with bioinformatics tools
Most Internet online resources for investigating HIV biology contain either bioinformatics tools, protein information or sequence data. The objective of this study was to develop a comprehensive online proteomics resource that integrates bioinformatics with the latest information on HIV-1 protein structure, gene expression, post-transcriptional/post-translat

10. Human protein reference database as a discovery resource for proteomics
The rapid pace at which genomic and proteomic data is being generated necessitates the development of tools and resources for managing data that allow integration of information from disparate sources. The Human Protein Reference Database (http://www.hprd.org) is a web-based resource based on open source technologies for protein information about several asp
