37. An Evaluation of the Use of Formic Acid for Extraction of Trace Elements from Brazil Nut and Babassu Coconut and Its Suitability for Multi-Element Determination by ICP-MS
Formic acid extractions of Brazil nut and babassu coconut samples were undertaken prior to determination of Al, As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Sr, V and Zn in their meat and oil portions by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) in an effort to accomplish a first order fractionation of the trace elements between these two components.

38. TRACE ELEMENTS IN PLASMA AND NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENT IN PATIENTS WITH COMPENSATED CIRRHOSIS ON A LIVER TRANSPLANT LIST

39. Preliminary Study about the Origin of Trace Elements in the Atmospheric Deposition in Two Brazilian Subtropical Estuaries
The atmospheric deposition of dissolved trace elements was investigated in two subtropical estuarine systems, located on the coast of Paraná, Southeast Brazil. The samples (n = 91) were collected in three periods, from May to September 2010, in four different areas. Trace elements concentrations (Al, Fe, Zn, Mn, Ba, Ca, Mo, V, As, Cu, Co, Ni, Cr and Pb) wer

40. Pressurized Flow Solubilization System Using Electromagnetic Induction Heating Technique for Simultaneous Determination of Inorganic Elements (Ba, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Na, Pb, Sr, Zn) in Sonicate Slurries of Biological Materials by Microwave Induced Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (MIP-OES)
A pressurized continuous flow system using electromagnetic induction heating technique has been developed for the determination of trace and minor element content in biological samples by microwave induced plasma-optical emission spectrometry (MIP-OES). The system allows the continuous solubilization of samples at an optimized temperature of 120 °C and pres

41. Serum Levels of Trace Elements in Patients with Testicular Cancers
Introduction: Trace elements are primary components of biological structures; however, they can be toxic when their concentrations are higher than those needed for biological functions. Materials and Methods: In the present study serum levels of trace elements were measured in 30 patients (mean age was 26.9±11.2 years) newly diagnosed with germ cell testi

42. Geochemical behaviour of trace elements during fractional crystallization and crustal assimilation of the felsic alkaline magmas of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

43. Multi-elemental analysis of Ziziphora clinopodioidesfrom different regions, periods and parts using atomic absorption spectrometry and chemometric approaches
ABSTRACTIn this study, ten trace elements in Ziziphora clinopodioidesLam., Lamiaceae, from different regions, periods and parts in Xinjiang were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry following microwave-assisted acid digestion. The decreasing sequence of elements levels was K > Ca > Mg > Fe > Cu > Zn > Na > Mn > Cd > Pb. Chemometric approaches, such a

44. Oxidative Stress Parameters, Related Trace Elements Levels and Proteomics in Soybean Seeds in Order to Get a Better Assessment of Their Quality
Antioxidant systems, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Ni levels and proteomics in soybean seeds of different performance in field were assessed. These results were correlated with the in vitro tests required by regulatory organisms, and the actual behavior in field. Basal superoxide content, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity (20-80 U mg-1 protein) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-pic

45. Evaluation of Direct Analysis for Trace Elements in Tea and Herbal Beverages by ICP-MS
In general, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) food analysis requires numerous sample treatment steps that imply an increase of analysis time and the use of chemicals. In this study, the main objective was to evaluate the applicability of the direct analysis by ICP-MS to determine twelve elements (Al, As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se

46. ON HYPOTHESIS TESTS FOR COVARIANCE MATRICES UNDER MULTIVARIATE NORMALITY
In this paper we proposed a new statistical test for testing the covariance matrix in one population under multivariate normal assumption. In general, the proposed and the likelihood-ratio tests resulted in larger values of estimated powers than VMAX for bivariate and trivariate cases. VMAX was not sensitive to general changes in the covariance (correlation)

47. Physicochemical composition, minerals, and pesticide residues in organic grape juices
Demand for organic products is intensified in many countries each year. Following this trend, Brazil produces increasing volumes of organic grape juice. In this way, a survey of organic grape juices made from grapes produced according to this system was carried out where physicochemical composition, minerals, trace elements, and pesticide residues were deter

48. Screening of iron-enriched fungus from natural environment and evaluation of organically bound iron bioavailability in rats
Iron is an essential element for nearly all living organisms, and its deficiency is the most common form of malnutrition in the world. The organic forms of trace elements are considered more bioavailable than the inorganic forms. Although Saccharomyces cerevisiae can enrich metal elements and convert inorganic iron to organic species, its tolerability and tr
