1. Mapping of QTL for aluminum tolerance in tropical maize
Abstract The objectives of this study were to map genomic regions associated with QTL for aluminum (Al) tolerance in maize and determine the phenotypic effects of tolerance loci. QTL analysis for Al tolerance was carried out in a population of F2:3 progenies resulting from a cross between the contrasting lines LT 99-4 and LS 04-2. SSR (Simple Sequence Repeat

2. Aluminum stress tolerance in potato genotypes grown with silicon
ABSTRACT Potato cultivation is widespread around the world, being exposed to several abiotic stresses, including soils with high aluminum (Al) availability. Silicon (Si) is recognized for alleviating the stress caused by Al in various plant species. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the potential of Si to mitigate the oxidative stress caused by

3. Genetic control of aluminum tolerance in tropical maize germplasm
ABSTRACT Aluminum (Al) toxicity is the most limiting factor to maize crop productivity in acid soils. Therefore, the understanding of inheritance of Al tolerance in maize is important for the developmentof more adequate procedures for Al tolerant genotypes selection. In this sense, the objectives of this study were to determine the inheritance, and the gener

4. Effects of nanoparticles of hydroxy-aluminum phthalocyanine on markers of liver injury and glucose metabolism in diabetic mice
Photodynamic therapy, by reducing pain and inflammation and promoting the proliferation of healthy cells, can be used to treat recurrent lesions, such as diabetic foot ulcers. Studies using the photosensitizer phthalocyanine, together with the nanostructured copolymeric matrix of Pluronic® and Carbopol® for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and leishma

5. Determinación de la tenacidad a la fractura J en laminados fibra-metal del tipo CARALL con láminas de aluminio 6061 y 1050
ABSTRACT Determination of fracture toughness in hybrid composites, fiber-metal laminates, FML (Fiber Metal Laminates) is very important to perform an analysis of structural integrity to estimate damage tolerance and residual strength of the material against the propagation of a crack This evaluation should be done in both naval and aircraft structures using

6. Initial root length in wheat is highly correlated with acid soil tolerance in the field
ABSTRACT: In acid soils, toxic aluminum ions inhibit plant root growth. In order to discriminate aluminum (Al) tolerance, trustful screening techniques are required. In this study, 20 wheat cultivars, showing different levels of Al tolerance, were evaluated in a short-term soil experiment to access their relative root length (RRL). Moreover, the alleles of t

7. Effects of aluminum on the elongation and external morphology of root tips in two maize genotypes
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of toxic levels of aluminum (Al) on the growth and external morphology of root tips in two maize genotypes with differential Al tolerance. The maize genotypes UFVM-100 (Al-sensitive) and UFVM-200 (Al-tolerant) were treated with 0 and 50 mM Al in a 0.5 mM CaCl2 solution at pH 4.5; root elongatio

8. Cowpea symbiotic efficiency, pH and aluminum tolerance in nitrogen-fixing bacteria
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) cultivation in northern and northeastern Brazil provides an excellent source of nutrients and carbohydrates for the poor and underprivileged. Production surplus leads to its consumption in other regions of Brazil and also as an export commodity. Its capacity to establish relationships with atmospheric nitrogen-fixing bacteria is cr

9. Obtaining tetraploid plants of ruzigrass (Brachiaria ruziziensis)
The objective of the present work was to induce chromosome doubling in genotypes of Brachiaria ruziziensis with potential for production of good-quality biomass and tolerance/resistance to stress caused by aluminum and spittlebugs. Germinated seeds of B. ruziziensis were immersed in 0.1% colchicine solution for 2 or 3 hours. Ploidy level was determined by fl

10. Antioxidant system response induced by aluminum in two rice cultivars
The antioxidant defense system response was evaluated in two rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.), Fernandes (CNA-1158) and Maravilha (CNA-6843-1), treated with toxic levels of aluminum. After exposure to aluminum we determined plant growth, H2O2 and O2•- contents, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes activities and ascorbate and dehydroascorbate contents.

11. Tolerance of arabica coffee cultivars for aluminum in nutritive solution
This work aimed to evaluate the Coffea arabica cultivars for aluminum toxicity tolerance, in modified Hoagland solution. A completely randomized design with five repetitions in a factorial 4 x 4 (cultivar x combinations of aluminum) was used. After 44 days of the sowing, were transferred ten seedlings each cultivar germinated in the absence of Al3+ to soluti

12. Genetic analysis of aluminum tolerance in Brazilian barleys.
Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a major factor limiting barley growth in acid soils, and genotypes with adequate level of tolerance are needed for improving barley adaptation in Brazil. To study the inheritance of Al tolerance in Brazilian barleys, cultivars Antarctica 1, BR 1 and FM 404 were crossed to sensitive Kearney and PFC 8026, and intercrossed. Parental, F
