1. Wnt3a but not CDX-2 expression is associated with differentiated thyroid cancer
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Thyroid neoplasm incidence has increased worldwide, mostly due to the advancements in medical imaging and screening rates. The aberrant Wnt/β-catenin pathway has been identified as a key mechanism, and it has also been related to the metastatic activity of differentiated thyroid cancer. We aimed to verify the difference in the expression

2. Non-alpine primary thyroid angiosarcoma
SUMMARY Thyroid angiosarcoma is an extremely rare malignancy, which occurs more frequently in the alpine region, likely associated with iodine deficiency and endemic goiter. This is an aggressive neoplasm that usually harbors a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 49-year-old Portuguese female patient presenting with a large nodule in the anterior neck re

3. Is there a place for measuring serum calcitonin prior to thyroidectomy in patients with a non-diagnostic thyroid nodule biopsy?
ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the cytopathological Bethesda System classification of thyroid nodule fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in MTC patients and to assess the role of preoperative serum calcitonin (CT) levels in the investigation of this neoplasm in medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) patients under observation at the Uopeccan (União Oeste Paranaens

4. Follicular Lesions with Papillary Nuclear Characteristics: Differences in Chromatin Detected by Computerized Image Analysis
ABSTRACT Objective: Follicular lesions of the thyroid with papillary carcinoma nuclear characteristics are classified as infiltrative follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma-FVPTC (IFVPTC), encapsulated/well demarcated FVPTC with tumour capsular invasion (IEFVPTC), and the newly described category “non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with p

5. Pesticide exposure and cancer: an integrative literature review

6. Follicular thyroid carcinoma metastatic to skin: a small papule and a big diagnostic change
Abstract: Cutaneous metastases are uncommon in daily practice, although very important, since they may be the first manifestation of an undiscovered primary neoplasm or the first indication of recurrence. Cutaneous metastases from the breast are the most frequent in women and cutaneous metastases from the lung are the most frequent in men. Thyroid carcinoma,

7. The first postoperative-stimulated serum thyroglobulin is a prognostic factor for thyroid microcarcinomas

8. Aggressive papillary thyroid carcinoma in a child with type 2 congenital generalized lipodystrophy
SUMMARY Thyroid carcinoma (TC) is rare in children, particularly in those aged < 10 years. Several studies have demonstrated a correlation between neoplasms and hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance, which are often associated with a higher risk for and/or aggressiveness of the neoplasm. Congenital generalized lipodystrophy (CGL) with autosomal recessive i

10. Impact of historic histopathologic sample review on the risk of recurrence in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the historic risk of recurrence (RR) and response to therapy to risk stratification estimated with historical pathology reports (HPRs) and contemporary re-review of the pathological slides in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Subjects and methods Out of 210 DTC patients with low and intermediate RR who underwe

11. Pituitary metastasis of lung neuroendocrine carcinoma: case report and literature review
SUMMARY Metastasis to the pituitary gland is an unusual situation in clinical practice, but the frequency thereof is increasing due to the increased survival of cancer patients, and greater availability of imaging. In most cases, they are found between the sixth and seventh decades of life, as determined in image examination of patients with known malignant

12. Thyroid nodule: first manifestation of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
The presence of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) cells in the thyroid gland is most likely due to a secondary involvement by a systemic disease. The reported incidence of CLL involving the thyroid is extremely low, representing about 3–4% of all thyroid lymphoproliferative neoplasm. We report a rare case of CLL presenting initially in the thyroid gland.
