13. B cell lymphoma of the thymus and salivary gland.
A case of primary low grade B cell lymphoma of the salivary gland associated with a low grade B cell lymphoma of the thymus and involvement of the skin is reported. The lesions in the salivary gland and in the thymus showed the typical features of a lymphoma arising from the mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) and comprised lymphatic follicles, centrocy

14. The presence of erythroid cells in the thymus gland of man.
Biopsies of the right lobe of normal thymus glands without signs of neoplasia or germinal centre formation from 35 patients ranging in age from 20 to 60 years of age, and from 3 children aged 6, 7 and 12, showed on electron microscopic examination of the material from 14 patients that in 12 cases erythroid cells of all stages of development past the beginnin

15. Identification of neural profiles containing vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, acetylcholinesterase and catecholamines in the rat thymus.
Sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation of the rat thymus is described using immunohistochemical, fluorescence histochemical and histochemical methods. Sympathetic innervation was found to enter the gland with the vasculature and to be distributed mainly in the subcapsular and corticomedullary junctional areas of the cortex. The parasympathetic innervati

19. Carcinoid tumour of the thymus gland: report of a case.
CARCINOID OF THE THYMUS IS A RARE PROBLEM A case is reported to add to only 16 previously reported. None of these 17 patients had the carcinoid syndrome. Complete surgical excision, if possible, is the treatment of choice.

22. Parathyroid cyst of the thymus.
A case is described of primary hyperparathyroidism in a patient with both a parathyroid cyst within the thymus gland and a concomitant parathyroid adenoma. The parathyroid adenoma contained microcystic areas of degeneration, and it is thought that the parathyroid cyst reflected degenerative change in a pre-existing adenoma. Parathyroid cyst should be conside

23. Immunological defect and its correction in the osteopetrotic mutant rat.
Congenital osteopetrosis in the mutant rat "op" is accompanied by early atrophy of the thymus gland. The response of thymocytes to concanavalin A and phytohemagglutinin P was greatly diminished at age 28 days, even before pronounced thymic atrophy could be detected. The response of spleen cells to mitogens that stimulate thymus-derived (T) and bone-marrow-de

24. Thymosin beta 4: a ubiquitous peptide in rat and mouse tissues.
Thymosin beta 4, recently isolated from calf thymus, is present in a number of rat and mouse tissues, including spleen, thymus, brain, lung, liver, and heart muscle. High concentrations are found in peritoneal macrophages, suggesting that its occurrence in other tissues may be related to the presence of macrophages or macrophage-like cells in these tissues.
