1. Recombinant gonadotropin therapy to improve spermatogenesis in nonobstructive azoospermic patients – A proof of concept study
ABSTRACT Purpose: Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) associated with primary spermatogenic failure is a common cause of male infertility usually considered untreatable; however, some reports have suggested that hormonal stimulation to boost the intra-testicular testosterone level and spermatogenesis might increase the chance of achieving pregnancy using homol

2. Effect of Photoperiod on the Egg Production, Plasma Luteinizing Hormone, Follicle-Stimulating Hormone, Gonadal Hormones, and Mrna Levels of Lh and Fsh in the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis of Pigeons
ABSTRACT We investigated the egg production, changes in luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), gonadal hormones, and their mRNA levels in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis of White King pigeons submitted to different photoperiods. The treatments consisted of three photoperiods (8 h light (L):16 h dark (D), 12L:12D, and 16L:8D), w

3. A short-term arm-crank exercise program improved testosterone deficiency in adults with chronic spinal cord injury
Purpose To determine the influence of arm-crank exercise in reproductive hormone levels in adults with chronic SCI. Further objectives were to assess the influence of arm-crank exercise on muscle strength and body composition. Materials and Methods Seventeen male adults with complete SCI at or below the 5th thoracic level (T5) volunteered for this study

4. The effect of Sertraline, Paroxetine, Fluoxetine and Escitalopram on testicular tissue and oxidative stress parameters in rats
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on testicular tissue and serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in rats. Materials and methods: A total of 40 male Wistar albino rats, 5.5-6 months old, were equally divided at random into five groups: group 1 was the control group, group 2 receiv

5. Prostatic disorders in acromegalic patients experience of a Brazilian center
Introduction Published data suggest that patients with acromegaly have an increased prevalence of prostate disorders. Objective To evaluate prostatic disorders in acromegalic patients comparing these results after one year of treatment of acromegaly and with a group of healthy men. Materials and Methods This study was composed of two parts: sectional st

6. Alteração do ciclo menstrual na adolescência: manifestação precoce da Síndrome Metabólica? / Alteration on menstrual cycle in adolescence: early manifestation of Metabolic Syndrome?
Evidences have appeared throughout the last decade that the metabolic syndrome(MS) (increasingly reported among teens) begins in intra-uterine life and its signs and symptoms are already present in adolescence. Nevertheless, specific diagnostic criteria for this age group are missing. The menstrual cycle represents the result of the normal functioning not on

7. Luteinizing hormone reduction by the male potency herb, Butea superba Roxb.
To determine if Butea superba Roxb., a traditional Thai male potency herb, has androgenic activity in 60-day-old male Wistar rats, we measured its effects on the pituitary-testicular axis and sex organs. Intact and orchidectomized adult male rats were subdivided into five groups (10 rats/group): distilled water, Butea superba (BS)-10, BS-50, BS-250, and test

8. Efeitos da utilizaÃÃo das diferentes doses de olanzapina sobre a espermatogÃnese em ratos wistar
The Olanzapina is used by acute treatment and maintenance in schizophrenia trail, as well as another psychoses. Despite atypical antipsychotics being more utilized nowadays, however there are few knowledge about its influence under spermatogenesis. Based on dopamine receptors presence in germ cell, the present work had objective to investigate the effects of

9. Follicle-stimulating Hormone and Human Spermatogenesis
The role of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the control of spermatogenesis is not well established in any species, including man. We studied the effect of an experimentally-induced, selective FSH deficiency on sperm production in normal men. After a 3-mo control period, five normal men received testosterone enanthate (T) 200 mg i. m. weekly to suppress

10. Follicle-stimulating hormone stimulates estradiol-17beta synthesis in cultured Sertoli cells.
Sertoli cells isolated from testes of 20-day-old rats and maintained in primary culture synthesized estradiol-17beta [1,3,5(10)-estratriene-3,17beta-diol] (measured by specific radioimmunoassay) when testosterone (17beta-hydroxy-4-androsten-3-one) 0.5 muM, was added to the culture medium. No detectable estradiol synthesis occurred when cells were incubated i

11. Sex steroid hormone regulation of follicle-stimulating hormone subunit messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) levels in the rat.
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) beta, luteinizing hormone (LH) beta, and alpha subunit messenger RNA (mRNA) levels were examined in rats after castration and sex-steroid replacement. Subunit mRNAs were determined by blot hybridization using rat FSH beta genomic DNA, and alpha and LH beta complementary DNA (cDNA). Rat FSH beta mRNA is 1.7 kilobase in size.

12. Pituitary-testicular responsiveness in male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.
An isolated deficiency of pituitary gonadotropins was demonstrated in six 46 XY males, 22 to 36 years of age, with and without anosmia. Undetectable or low levels of serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) clearly separated hypogonadotropic from normal adult males. Chronic (8-12 wk) administration of clomiphene citrate caused no
