13. Spontaneous and experimental poisoning by salinomycin in rabbits in Rio de Janeiro State. / Intoxicações natural e experimental por salinomicina em coelhos no Estado do Rio de Janeiro.
An outbreak of salinomycin poisoning in rabbits is described. From a total of 2000 rabbits, at least 27 died after coccidiostatic sulfaquinoxalin was substituted by salinomycin treatment. In the ration fed to the rabbits 26.9 ppm of salinomycin were detected. Clinical signs included anorexia, apathy and slowness with evolution to incoordination and recumbenc

14. Intoxicação espontânea por larvas de Perreyia flavipes (pergidae) em ovinos e bovinos e intoxicação experimental em ovinos e coelhos. / Spontaneous poisoning by larvae of Perreyia Flavipes (PERGIDAE) in sheep and cattle and experimental poisoning in sheep and rabbits

15. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL ASPECTS AND URINARY BLADDER LESIONS IN SPONTANEOUS CHRONIC POISONING BY Pteridium aquilinum IN CATTLE / ASPECTOS EPIDEMIOLÓGICOS, CLÍNICOS E LESÕES VESICAIS NA INTOXICAÇÃO CRÔNICA ESPONTÂNEA POR Pteridium aquilinum EM BOVINOS

16. Avaliação neuropsicológica de pacientes expostos ao vapor de mercúrio e de pacientes diabéticos do tipo 2 / Neuropsychological assessments of patients exposed to mercury vapor and of type 2 diabetic patients
Neuropsychological function is known to be affected by exposure to toxic substances and metabolic disorders. Two descriptive studies were performed. The aim was to examine possible neuropsychological dysfunction in individuals with history of occupational exposure to mercury vapor, and in type 2 diabetic patients without retinopathy, in comparison with contr

17. The effects of intracochlear and systemic furosemide on the properties of single cochlear nerve fibres in the cat
1. Tuning properties and spontaneous discharge rate of single cochlear fibres in the anaesthetized cat were determined during short- and long-term poisoning of the cochlea by locally and systemically applied furosemide.

18. Electrophysiological findings in diphenyl poisoning.
The fungistatic agent diphenyl caused fatal poisoning with signs of neurotoxicity in a worker in a Finnish paper mill. This initiated a neurophysiological study of 24 workers occupationally exposed to diphenyl. Ten men showed EEG abnormalities, mainly diffuse or generalized ones. The abnormalities persisted on re-examination one and two years later. Nine sub

19. Miniature end-plate potentials in rat skeletal muscle poisoned with botulinum toxin.
Spontaneous transmitter release, recorded as miniature end-plate potentials (m.e.p.p.s), was studied in rat extensor digitorum longus (e.d.l.) and soleus muscles partially or completely paralysed by botulinum toxin type A (BoTx). Normal unpoisoned muscles were examined for comparison. Analysis of m.e.p.p.s in both normal and BoTx-poisoned muscles confirmed t

20. Sporulation and Enterotoxin Production by Mutants of Clostridium perfringens
The ability of Clostridium perfringens type A to produce an enterotoxin active in human food poisoning has been shown to be directly related to the ability of the organism to sporulate. Enterotoxin was produced only in a sporulation medium and not in a growth medium in which sporulation was repressed. Mutants with an altered ability to sporulate were isolate

21. Pre- and post-synaptic actions of botulinum toxin at the rat neuromuscular junction.
1. Extensor digitorum longus muscles of rats were paralysed with local, non-lethal doses of botulinum toxin Type A (BoTx). At 2 and 7 days after toxin injection, the nerve-muscle preparations were excised and end-plate currents analysed at 23 degrees C by dual-micro-electrode voltage clamp. 2. At 2 days after BoTx injection, the growth time of miniature end-

22. A study of the action of tetanus toxin at rat soleus neuromuscular junctions.
Tetanus toxin (TeTX) inhibits the evoked release of acetylcholine (ACh) at rat soleus end-plates. The effects of various procedures which evoke ACh release by raising the level of free intracellular calcium have been investigated at various stages of tetanus intoxication. At all stages studied TeTX has little or no effect on either the frequency or the ampli

23. The effect of cellular energy reserves and internal calcium ions on the potassium conductance in skeletal muscle of the frog.
The increase in K+ conductance induced by repetitive stimulation in metabolically poisoned sartorius muscle fibres of the frog was investigated, using a two-micro-electrode voltage-clamp technique. After the inhibition of creatine kinase by 0.4 mM-1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (FDNB) and a complete and irreversible exhaustion of contractility, a nearly linear
