1. Evaluation of the Current in the Cell Membrane for Numerical Simulations of Electroporation
Abstract This study presents a rigorous numerical analysis of the current in the cell membrane, subjected to a uniform electric field, and its impact in the pore formation. The numerical model considers a single cell composed of uniform membrane and cytoplasm, in a suspension medium. The current in the cell membrane is calculated using two different approach

2. Simulation of Current Pulses and Sound Waves Resulting from Partial Discharges in a Needle-Plane Geometry in Air
Abstract Partial discharges can occur in different types of electric equipment and cause progressive insulation deterioration, so there is interest in monitoring partial discharges for assessing the state of the isolation of an electric system and to predict failures. Techniques to detect partial discharges, such as detecting ultrasonic emission, have been p

3. LIQUID DIFFUSION DURING DRYING OF SORGHUM GRAINS UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS
ABSTRACT Drying is the most widely used process to ensure the quality and stability of plant products. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effective water diffusivity and activation energy in grain sorghum during drying at different temperatures and initial moisture contents. Sorghum grains (cultivar DeKalb 640) were harvested with an initial moistu

4. The divergence and curl in arbitrary basis
Abstract In this work, the divergence and curl operators are obtained using the coordinate free non rigid basis formulation of differential geometry. Although the authors have attempted to keep the presentation self-contained as much as possible, some previous exposure to the language of differential geometry may be helpful. In this sense the work is aimed t

5. Entropy Generation Minimization Analysis of Active Magnetic Regenerators
Abstract A performance assessment of active magnetocaloric regenerators using entropy generation minimization is presented. The model consists of the Brinkman-Forchheimer equation to describe the fluid flow and coupled energy equations for the fluid and solid phases. Entropy generation contributions due to axial heat conduction, fluid friction and interstiti

6. MOLECULAR THERMODYNAMICS OF MICELLIZATION: MICELLE SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS AND GEOMETRY TRANSITIONS
Abstract Surfactants are amphiphilic molecules that can spontaneously self-assemble in solution, forming structures known as micelles. Variations in temperature, pH, and electrolyte concentration imply changes in the interactions between surfactants and micelle stability conditions, including micelle size distribution and micelle shape. Here, molecular therm

7. Analysis of laminated composite skew shells using higher order shear deformation theory
Static analysis of skew composite shells is presented by developing a C0 finite element (FE) model based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT). In this theory the transverse shear stresses are taken as zero at the shell top and bottom. A realistic parabolic variation of transverse shear strains through the shell thickness is assumed and the use of

8. Mass transfer kinetics of osmotic dehydration of cherry tomato.
Cherry tomato samples were osmotically dehydrated in different hypertonic NaCI solutions (with or without sucrose) at two different concentrations. Mass transfer kinetics were modelled according to Peleg, Fick and Page equations. The Peleg equation presented the best fitting for water loss and Page model showed the best predictive capacity for salt gain data

9. Influencia de la forma de los granos del fundente fundido CIS-F10 en la morfología y propiedades del metal depositado
In the present paper, the shape of fused grains flux CIS-F10, granulated in air and in water, its effect on weld bead geometry and its properties were studied. Grains morphology, properties, fluidity during piling, hygroscopic behavior and the amount of air between the grains during use were analyzed. The application of these procedures showed evidence that

10. Medições do saldo de radiação em copas de cafeeiros e limeiras ácidas por sistemas de integração espaço-temporal e estimativas por técnicas de modelagem / Measurements of net radiation of the canopy of coffee and acid lime trees in hedgerows by spatiotemporal integration systems and estimates by modelling techniques
The amount of radiant energy absorbed by the canopy of trees has great application in photosynthesis and transpiration research. Studies of radiation interception by the canopies of an isolated or a sequence of trees in hedgerows have been carried out by a technique which employs moving radiometers around an isolated tree (spherical geometry of measurement)

11. Codigos esfericos em toros planares / Spherical codes on flat torus
Spherical codes in Euclidean spaces are finite sets of points on the surface of a multidimensional sphere and have been widely studied in connection with the signal transmission over a Gaussian channel. For this purpose one fundamental issue is to maximize the minimum distance between two code points, what is strongly related to the more general problem of s

12. Reticulados e codigos / Lattices and codes
We approach here some problems related to minimizing the error probability in signals transmission over Gaussian and Rayleigh channels. Algebraic ideal lattice theory is used to construct rotations of the n-dimensional integer lattice via cyclotomic fields. This construction allows to evaluate the minimum product distance of the lattice, parameter which cont
