1. Abiotic effects on the cover and richness of corticolous lichens on Araucaria angustifolia trunks
ABSTRACT Lichens play a key role in natural ecosystems, as they can function as primary producers, recycle minerals and fix nitrogen. Despite their environmental importance, little is known about lichen ecology in Brazil, and especially about how abiotic factors may influence their spatial distribution. In this study, we aimed to verify how the cover and ric

2. Evaluation of the Blue Crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 Bycatch in Artisanal Fisheries in Southern Brazil
ABSTRACT We evaluated the incidental catch of the blue crab in artisanal fisheries through the analysis of sex ratio, catch per unit effort, net positioning, and size in which the capture probability was 50% (P50). The specimens were collected from 2011 to 2013 in the estuary of Patos Lagoon, southern Brazil. The analysis showed a higher occurrence of males.

This study used chemometric tools and a Geographic Information System (GIS) to determine the influence of organic matter and anthropogenic activity on the distribution of metal species between two major communities of the Middle Negro River Basin-AM. Higher concentrations of metal species were determined in flooded regions. The chemometric analysis showed th

Raman imaging spectroscopy is a highly useful analytical tool that provides spatial and spectral information on a sample. However, CCD detectors used in dispersive instruments present the drawback of being sensitive to cosmic rays, giving rise to spikes in Raman spectra. Spikes influence variance structures and must be removed prior to the use of multivariat

Nowadays we can observe in Natal city, the development of the structure and the healths private service. However, the spatial distribution of these services will be marked by an uneven distribution on the places, what will be in according with the conditions offered by the same in each historical period. Accordingly, the objective of this job is analyze the

6. ORGANIZAÇÃO ESPACIAL DA PRODUÇÃO DE ERVA-MATE NO MUNICÍPIO DE PALMITOS/SC / SPATIAL ORGANIZATION OF PRODUCTION OF GRASS-MATE IN THE CITY OF PALMITOS / SC
This study aims to understand the relation between the spatial organization of Palmitos / SC and production of yerba mate, over time. The exploitation of this natural resource is linked with the earliest forms of human occupation in space developed which includes the city under study. During this period played main role in determining the ways that space rec

7. Neurofisiologia hipocampal durante sessões de sono intercaladas por exploração espacial: Reverberação do passado ou predição do futuro?
The ability to predict future rewards or threats is crucial for survival. Recent studies have addressed future event prediction by the hippocampus. Hippocampal neurons exhibit robust selectivity for spatial location. Thus, the activity of hippocampal neurons represents a cognitive map of space during navigation as well as during planning and recall. Spatial

Carbon dioxide of methane reforming into syngas over Ni/γ-Al2O3 and Ni/CeO2-Al2O3 catalysts was investigated. The Nikel catalysts presented high activity and stability although of the potential of coke formation on its active sites. The development of the dry methane reform for process, main component of natural gÃs (GN), was studied in a fluidized bed

The aristeid shrimp fishery started in Brazil in the end of 2002 after the discovery of profitable concentrations of these resources by chartered foreign trawling vessels. The operation of these vessels was stimulated by the Federal Government as a part of a plan of ocupation and exploration of Brazilian EEZ. The current work presents a study about the dynam

10. Modernizações e espaços seletivos no nordeste brasileiro. Sobral: conexão lugar/mundo / Modernization and selectivity in Sobral (Northeast Brazil): the conection place/world
The objective of this work is to understand how the urban space of many cities, far from the ones that are already consolidated as Brazilian metropolis, goes through deep changes in different aspects of life in a modernizing logic; in its urban economy, in the job structure, in the way that the people live, circulate and consume, resulting in an accelerated

11. Radial frequency stimuli and sine-wave gratings seem to be processed by distinct contrast brain mechanisms
An assumption commonly made in the study of visual perception is that the lower the contrast threshold for a given stimulus, the more sensitive and selective will be the mechanism that processes it. On the basis of this consideration, we investigated contrast thresholds for two classes of stimuli: sine-wave gratings and radial frequency stimuli (i.e., j0 tar

12. Linear mechanisms of directional selectivity in simple cells of cat striate cortex.
The role of linear spatial summation in the directional selectivity of simple cells in cat striate cortex was investigated. The experimental paradigm consisted of comparing the response to drifting grating stimuli with linear predictions based on the response to stationary contrast-reversing gratings. The spatial phase dependence of the response to contrast-
