1. 3D numerical investigation of mixture formation and combustion in a DISI engine at part-load under stratified operation
This work investigates through numerical simulation, the operation of a big bore direct fuel injection spark ignition engine, at part load under stratified operation. It evaluates fuel-air mixture preparation and combustion process with the adoption of detailed chemical kinetics mechanisms for both Isooctane and Ethanol, and applying adaptive mesh refinement

3. Vegetation Burning in Pampa Biome Altered the Chemical Composition of Rainfall
ABSTRACT Rainfall is one of the primary nutrient inputs to vegetation and its chemical composition is dependent on air quality as falling rain scavenges gaseous and particulate emissions from natural, industrial, and agricultural activities. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the vegetation burn in a region of the Pampa biome influences the

4. Study of the Influence of Biodiesel in Soot Emissions of Diesel Laminar Diffusion Flames
In this work the presence of soot in laminar diffusion of diesel and blends diesel/biodiesel flames were investigated in the following proportions: 5, 10, 20 and 50% of biodiesel. The technique of laser-induced incandescence (LII) was used for the soot detection. Horizontal mapping were performed at two heights (80 and 260 mm above the burner) to investigate

5. An Investigation on Morphology and Fractal Dimension of Diesel and Diesel-Biodiesel Soot Agglomerates
In this study, it is reported the fractal dimension and morphology of ultrafine particles emitted by a diesel engine run with B4, B50, and B100. Transmission electron micrographs evidenced two main groups of particles with characteristic and distinct morphological behaviors: (i) particle agglomerate structures self-organized within a fractal-like geometry, a

6. Kinetic Parameters of Soot Oxidation Catalyzed by Nanosized ZnO-CeO2 Solids
Catalytic combustion of soot was performed over ZnO:CeO2 catalysts obtained via a non‑alkoxide sol-gel route. Different kinetics parameters were calculated through thermal analyses, thus, enabling the correlation between the experimental data and the decomposition mechanisms probably associated with the soot decomposition in each case.

7. Comparison of spectral models in the computation of radiative heat transfer in participating media composed of gases and soot
Accurate combustion models are necessary to predict, among other effects, the production of pollutant gases and the heat transfer. As an important part of the combustion modeling, thermal radiation is often the dominant heat transfer mechanism, involving absorption and emission from soot and participating gases, such as water vapor and carbon dioxides. If th

8. Employment of acoustic field for pollutant emission reduction under lean combustion
Pulsating combustion is a technique that directly intervenes in combustion processes modifying pollutant emissions and increasing thermal efficiency by varying pressure and temperature in the flame region. The pulsations accelerate mixture rate between oxidant and fuel, resulting in a more intense combustion process, with low fuel waste and potential for low

9. Um estudo dos processos de regulação e governança socioambiental do setor sucroalcooleiro no Brasil
In the last five years, there was an increase the ethanol production in Brazil, thanks to the ex-pansion of this sector in the Brazilian Cerrado. Despite all the scientific and technological development for sustainable production of ethanol, the environmental, social and labor also affect the credibility of the product, both domestically and externally. 10. Produção de gás de síntese por plasma térmico via pirólise de metano e dióxido de carbono
In this work the production of synthesis gas from a mixture of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) by thermal plasma was studied. The best relation found for the gas mixture [CO2]/[CH4] was 1.3. Under the excess of CH4 in the gas mixture soot was formed and also benzene, indene and naphthalene were identified. The disulfides compounds in the gas mixture w

11. Diesel/biodiesel soot oxidation with ceo2 and ceo2-zro2-modified cordierites: a facile way of accounting for their catalytic ability in fuel combustion processes
CeO2 and mixed CeO2-ZrO2 nanopowders were synthesized and efficiently deposited onto cordierite substrates, with the evaluation of their morphologic and structural properties through XRD, SEM, and FTIR. The modified substrates were employed as outer heterogeneous catalysts for reducing the soot originated from the diesel and diesel/biodiesel blends incomplet

12. Modelagem da radiação térmica em chamas laminares da combustão de metano em ar
This work analyses the effects of thermal radiation heat transfer on methane-air laminar diffusion flames. The analysis is based on the solution of the equations of continuity, fluid motion, species mass-fraction and enthalpy. The soot formation is accounted with a twoequation model while a chemistry mecanism with 112 reactions is used for the combustion of
