13. Characterization of Cs2NaAIF6:Cr3+ and Cs2NaGaF6:Fe3+ single crystals by electron paramagnetic resonance / Caracterização dos monocristais Cs2NaAIF6:Cr3+ e Cs2NaGaF6:Fe3+ por meio de ressonancia paramagnetica eletronica
The interest in materials with large bands of absorption and luminescence is due to the possibility of their applications as tunable solid state lasers. The crystals Cs2NaAlF6:Cr3+ and Cs2NaGaF6:Fe3+ present these properties and , naturally, some of their physical characteristics, such as the crystal field , are decisive for their optical activity and should

14. CRESCIMENTO E CARACTERIZAÇÃO DE FIBRAS MONOCRISTALINAS DE FLUORETOS DO TIPO LiY1-xTRxF4 (TR = TERRAS-RARAS) / GROWTH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF FLUORIDE CRYSTALLINE FIBRES TYPE LiY1-xTRxF4 (RE = RARE-EARTH)
In this work we present the growth and characterization of LiF and pure and rare-earth doped (Er and Nd) yttrium-lithium tetra-fluoride (LiYF4 or YLF) by the micro-pulling-down technique (µ-PD). The use of this technique is original for the present purpose. A m-PD prototype in the resistive mode was firstly built to understand the most important operational

15. Estudo da interação entre sistemas luminescentes e alfa e beta-ciclodextrina em solução aquosa / Study of luminescent materials in aqueous solution by interaction with alfa and beta cyclodextrin
In recent years, there has been considerable research on the study of energy transfer process by active optically ions due to their great importance in solid state devices, e.g., lasers and optic-electronic materials. These luminescent materials in aqueous solution can also be very useful as sensors or probe in biomaterials analysis. In this context, the int

16. Optical Transmitter with Millimeter-wave Subcarrier
There is increasing need for high-speed fiberoptic links operating in the microwave and millimeter wave range for applications like cellular personal communication systems (PCS), high capacity distribution systems (HDTV, data, interactive multimedia), phased array, remote antennas, etc. The conventional methods of high frequency modulation at millimeter-wave

17. Caracterização do LiNbO3:Er+3 como meio ativo para lasers de estado sólido através dos espectros de absorção/emissão polarizada e medida dos tempos de vida de luminescência. / Characterization of LiNbO3:Er+3 as active media for solid-state lasers through polarized absorption/ emission spectra and measurements of luminescence lifetime.
This work consists in the optical characterization of LiNbO3:Er3+ single crystals, aiming to verify the possibility of this system being an active media for laser. The absorption and emission results were satisfactory, being compatible enough with the theoretical model adopted. The luminescence lifetime of the 4S3/2 - 4I15/2 e 4F9/2 - 4I15/2 transitions was

18. Interações eletronicas em semicondutores normais e em plasmas, quando sob a ação de campos eletromagneticos
The effect of external fields on the behavior of electron interactions in both a solid state and a gaseous plasma has been considered. The external fields consisted of strong electromagnetic waves by themselves or in association with a d.c. magnetic field. As to the interactions in a gaseous plasma the plasma heating by inverse bremsstrahlung ( IB ) was stud

19. Ultrasound induced improvement in optical coherence tomography (OCT) resolution
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a rapidly emerging technology for high-resolution biomedical imaging. The axial resolution of this technology is determined by the bandwidth of the source. Commercial sources generally provide resolutions of 10–20 μm whereas laboratory-based solid state lasers have resolutions of ≈4 μm. The resolution in tissue dep

20. Three-photon induced fluorescence of the calcium probe Indo-1.
We report the calcium-dependent emission spectral properties of the calcium probe Indo-1 for three-photon excitation. We found that Indo-1 could be readily excited with the femtosecond pulses from a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser at 885 nm. This wavelength is too long for two-photon excitation, which is expected to occur for wavelengths no longer than twice t
