1. Simultaneous removal of nitrogen and organic carbon from swine wastewater using the pre-denitrification/nitrification process

2. Nitrificação e desnitrificação simultânea em reator com biomassa em suspensão e fluxo contínuo de esgoto / Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in reactor with biomass in suspension and continuous flow of sewage
It was developed in Europe the process known as Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification (SND) in activated sludge that operates with a SRT, high enough for nitrification to occur, even with low concentration of dissolved oxygen in the aeration tanks. Such situation in the tanks is possible to maintain anoxic conditions inside the flocs and to have the

3. Desempenho de um reator vertical de fluxo contínuo e leito estruturado com recirculação do efluente, submetido à aeração intermitente, na remoção de carbono e nitrogênio de um efluente sintético / Performance of vertical reactor of continuous flow and bed structured with recirculation, submitted to intermittent aeration for the removal of carbon and nitrogen from a synthetic effluent

This study evaluated the application of hybrid reactor in simultaneous removal of carbon and nitrogen. It used two sets of reactors formed by anaerobic reactor (UASB + Filter anaerobic) and aerobic reactor (activated sludge + aerated biofilter). The hydraulic retention time (HRT) of the anaerobic reactors was at 8 hours as an aerobic reactor operated with HR

5. Remoção de carbono e nitrogênio em reator de leito móvel submetido à aeração intermitente / Nitrogen and carbon removal in moving bed reactor operated under intermittent aeration
The operating conditions for the combined removal of nitrogen and organic matter in moving- bed biological reactor were investigated. Two bench-scale reactors, two liters each, were operated under intermittent aeration and continuously fed with synthetic wastewater containing ammonia nitrogen (90 to 110 mg/L) and molasses as organic carbon source (COD of 450

6. Photosynthetic Nitrite Reduction as Influenced by the Internal Inorganic Carbon Pool in Air-Grown Cells of Synechococcus UTEX 625.
Photosynthetic reduction of NO2- was studied in air-grown cells of a cyanobacterium, Synechococcus UTEX 625. Addition of NO2- resulted in significant amounts of chlorophyll a fluorescence quenching both in the absence and presence of CO2, fixation inhibitors, glycolaldehyde or iodoacetamide. The degree of NO2- quenching was insensitive to the O2 concentratio

7. Influence of Carbon Source on Nitrate Removal by Nitrate-Tolerant Klebsiella oxytoca CECT 4460 in Batch and Chemostat Cultures
The nitrate-tolerant organism Klebsiella oxytoca CECT 4460 tolerates nitrate at concentrations up to 1 M and is used to treat wastewater with high nitrate loads in industrial wastewater treatment plants. We studied the influence of the C source (glycerol or sucrose or both) on the growth rate and the efficiency of nitrate removal under laboratory conditions.
