1. Effect of added prebiotic (Isomalto-oligosaccharide) and Coating of Beads on the Survival of Microencapsulated Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG
Abstract The study aimed to encapsulate Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) with the selected prebiotic, using co-extrusion technology with a poly-L-lysine (PLL) coating and evaluate probiotic survival in simulated gastrointestinal conditions. Selection of ideal prebiotic was conducted using inulin, fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS) and isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMO

2. Improvement of the viability of probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus) by multilayer encapsulation

3. Development, characterization and viability study of probiotic microcapsules produced by complex coacervation followed by freeze-drying

4. Andean blueberry (Vaccinium floribundum) bread: physicochemical properties and bioaccessibility of antioxidants
Abstract The Andean Blueberry (Vaccinium floribundum) is a fruit with a recognized antioxidant capacity. Its consumption is limited to typical food in the Andean Ecuadorian zones. In this study, the effect of the addition of Andean blueberry (AB) pulp on loaf bread quality was determined. The specific volume was affected by the low fermentation rate due to t

5. PRODUÇÃO DE SORVETES COM CARACTERÍSTICAS SIMBIÓTICAS E AVALIAÇÃO DA SOBREVIVÊNCIA DE Lactobacillus paracasei EM CONDIÇÕES GASTROINTESTINAIS SIMULADAS / MANUFACTURE OF SYMBIOTIC ICE CREAM AND SURVIVAL OF Lactobacillus paracasei UNDER SIMULATED GASTROINTESTINAL CONDITIONS
Research has demonstrated that ice cream may be an appropriate vehicle for probiotic microorganisms and some prebiotic substances. Also, the widespread acceptance of ice cream, both by infantile, juvenile and adult public as well as by the elderly, and the increase of its consumption encourage the continuation of applied studies for developing functional ice

6. Produção e caracterização de iogurte probiótico batido adicionado de Lactobacillus acidophilus livre e encapsulado / Production and characteristics of stirred probiotic yoghurt with free and encapsulated Lactobacillus acidophilus

7. The potential of organic-based amylose-ethylcellulose film coatings as oral colon-specific drug delivery systems
Amylose-ethylcellulose film coatings obtained from organic-based solvents were investigated as potential vehicles for colonic drug delivery. Amylose, in the form of an amylose-butan-1-ol dispersion, and ethylcellulose, dissolved in either ethyl lactate, ethanol, or propanol and plasticized with dibutyl sebacate, were mixed in various proportions and applied

8. Characterization of Bacillus Probiotics Available for Human Use
Bacillus species (Bacillus cereus, Bacillus clausii, Bacillus pumilus) carried in five commercial probiotic products consisting of bacterial spores were characterized for potential attributes (colonization, immunostimulation, and antimicrobial activity) that could account for their claimed probiotic properties. Three B. cereus strains were shown to persist i

9. Screening for Bacillus Isolates in the Broiler Gastrointestinal Tract
Spores from a number of different Bacillus species are currently being used as human and animal probiotics, although their mechanisms of action remain poorly understood. Here we describe the isolation of 237 presumptive gut-associated Bacillus spp. isolates that were obtained by heat and ethanol treatment of fecal material from organically reared broilers fo

10. Analysis of segmental phosphate absorption in intact rats. A compartmental analysis approach.
Available information supports the dominance of the proximal intestine in inorganic phosphate (Pi) absorption. However, there is no strategy for analyzing segmental Pi absorption from a spontaneously propelled meal in an intact animal. We propose a solution using compartmental analysis. After intragastric administration of a 32P-labeled Pi liquid meal contai
