2. Systems developed for application as self-cleaning surfaces and/or antimicrobial properties: a short review on materials and production methods

3. Fe3O4-TiO2 and Fe3O4-SiO2 Core-shell Powders Synthesized from Industrially Processed Magnetite (Fe3O4) Microparticles
The interest for core-shells has been increased in the recent years due to their improved and modifiable properties. In this work, Fe3O4-TiO2 and Fe3O4-SiO2 core-shells were successfully synthesized from an industrially produced magnetite-rich powder with micro- and nanometric particle sizes, superparamagnetic behavior and saturation magnetization of 49 emu/

4. Can low-fusing glass application affect the marginal misfit and bond strength of Y-TZP crowns?
Abstract To evaluate the effect of different surface treatments on the marginal misfit and retentive strength between Y-TZP crowns and an epoxy resin. Forty (40) epoxy resin (G10) abutments (height: 5mm, conicity: 60, finish line: large chamfer) with equal dimensions were milled and included in polyurethane to simulate the periodontal ligament. Next, 40 Y-TZ

5. Preparation of Antireflective Silica Coating by the Sol-Gel Method for Heliothermic Power Plants
This work deals with the deposition of a thin layer of porous silica antireflective coating onto glass substrates. The films were deposited with different withdrawal speeds and heat-treated at 425°C for 30 minutes. The effects of heat treatment and film deposition rate on the films reflectance were evaluated. The diffuse reflectance was measured using ultra

6. Physiochemical and Optical Properties of GdF3:Pr@LaF3@SiO2 Microspheres
The polyol-based co-precipitation process was employed for synthesis of GdF3:Pr (core) and GdF3:Pr@LaF3 (core-shell) microspheres (MSs). Subsequently, an amorphous silica layer was deposited surrounding the core-shell MSs, which was verified from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and FTIR results.

7. Bond strength between a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network and a composite for repair: effect of several ceramic surface treatments
Abstract: The effects of several ceramic surface treatments on bond strength of a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network and resin composite as repair material were evaluated. CAD-CAM blocks of a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (Vita Enamic) were sliced and subjected to aging process, followed by embedding in acrylic resin. The bonding/repair area was treat

8. Crystallization of Zeolite A Coatings from Natural Zeolite
An investigation was carried out to determine the possibility of preparing coatings of synthetic zeolites on stainless steel from mixtures containing natural zeolite. Hydrothermal synthesis was applied and the coatings obtained were characterized by various techniques. It was observed that crystalline zeolite A coatings could be prepared from natural clinopt

9. NIR Luminescence from Sol-Gel Er3+ Doped SiO2:GeO2 Transparent Gels, Nanostructured Powders and Thin Films for Photonic Applications
Samples of (1 – x)SiO2:xGeO2 compositions, containing x = 10 and 20, and doped with Er3+, were prepared by a simple sol-gel route. Homogeneous and transparent gels were synthesized and xerogels were obtained by gel annealing from 700 ºC to 1100 ºC. Films exhibiting high transmittance in the visible and near infrared were deposited by spin-coating techniq

10. NOVO SORVENTE DE HIDROFOBICIDADE REDUZIDA PARA EXTRAÇÃO EM FASE SÓLIDA: PREPARAÇÃO E CARACTERIZAÇÃO
C18 chemically bonded sorbents have been the main materials used in solid phase extraction (SPE). However, due their high hydrophobicity some hydrophobic solutes are strongly retained leading to the consumption of larger quantities of organic solvent for efficient recoveries. This work presents a sorbent with lower hydrophobicity but similar selectivity to t

11. Effect of silica coating and silane surface treatment on the bond strength of soft denture liner to denture base material
OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effects of different surface treatments on the tensile bond strength of an autopolymerizing silicone denture liner to a denture base material after thermocycling. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty rectangular heat-polymerized acrylic resin (QC-20) specimens consisting of a set of 2 acrylic blocks were used in the tensile
