Devido a grande ameaça causad

15. Divergent evolution and purifying selection of the H (FUT1) gene in New World monkeys (Primates, Platyrrhini)
In the present study, the coding region of the H gene was sequenced and analyzed in fourteen genera of New World primates (Alouatta, Aotus, Ateles, Brachyteles, Cacajao, Callicebus, Callithrix, Cebus, Chiropotes, Lagothrix, Leontopithecus, Pithecia, Saguinus, and Saimiri), in order to investigate the evolution of the gene. The analyses revealed that this cod

16. The prion protein and New World primate phylogeny
The PrP C prion protein contains 250 amino acids with some variation among species and is expressed in several cell types. PrP C is converted to PrP Sc by a post-translational process in which it acquires amino acid sequences of three-dimensional conformation of beta-sheets. Variations in the prion protein gene were observed among 16 genera of New World prim

17. The current status of the New World monkey phylogeny
Four DNA datasets were combined in tandem (6700 bp) and Maximum parsimony and Neighbor-Joining analyses were performed. The results suggest three groups emerging almost at the same time: Atelidae, Pitheciidae and Cebidae. The total analysis strongly supports the monophyly of the Cebidae family, grouping Aotus, Cebus and Saimiri with the small callitrichines.

18. Mitochondrial DNA-like sequence in the nuclear genome of Saguinus (Callitrichinae, Primates): transfer estimation

This study is based on field observations of a group of Saguinus bicolor bicolor (Spix, 1823), pied bare-face tamarin (Callitrichidae: Primates), in a privately owned enclosed area of disturbed tropical rain-forest near the city of Manaus, Brazil. The study period encompassed one year of observations in an attempt to note the influences of climatic changes o

20. Effects of erythromycin and ciprofloxacin on chronic fecal excretion of Campylobacter species in marmosets.
Ciprofloxacin was compared with erythromycin for the eradication of Campylobacter species that were chronically excreted in the stools of marmosets (Saguinus labiatus labiatus, Saguinus fuscicollis nigrifrons, and Saguinus fuscicollis illigeri). Stool cultures were negative within 48 h of the beginning of treatment with either agent. Within 10 days after the

22. T-Cell Lymphoma Caused by Herpesvirus Saimiri C488 Independently of ie14/vsag, a Viral Gene with Superantigen Homology
The immediate-early gene ie14/vsag of herpesvirus saimiri has homology with murine superantigens. We compared the pathogenesis of infection with either ie14/vsag deletion mutants or wild-type virus C488 in cottontop tamarin monkeys (Saguinus oedipus). Two weeks after infection, all animals developed acute T-cell lymphomas independently of the presence of the

23. The structure of the vomeronasal organ and nasopalatine ducts in Aotus trivirgatus and some other primate species.
A vomeronasal organ and patent nasopalatine ducts were found in adult specimens of Aotus trivirgatus, Arctocebus calabarensis, Ateles geoffroyi and Saguinus fuscicollis. The vomeronasal complex appeared to be functional except in Ateles. However, the relative size of the organ in the Platyrrhini is much reduced compared to that in prosimians. The possible ro

24. Infection of marmosets with parainfluenza virus types 1 and 3.
Infection of wild marmosets (Saguinus mystax) with strains of parainfluenza virus types 1 and 3 resulted in acute respiratory infection. Virus replication in the upper respiratory tract was of a degree similar to that seen in children acutely infected with parainfluenza viruses. Serum antibody developed with both virus types; however, local secretory antibod
