1. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Vincetoxicum mongolicum (Apocynaceae), a perennial medicinal herb
Abstract Vincetoxicum mongolicum Maxim. (1876), is a perennial medicinal herb, widely distributed in the Loess Plateau of China. Here, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of V. mongolicum, and compared the highly variable gene regions and phylogenetic positions between V. mongolicum and other related species. Results s

2. Effects of different storage conditions on the oxidative stability of crude and refined palm oil, olein and stearin (Elaeis guineensis)
Abstract Crude palm oil (CPO), refined palm oil (RPO), refined palm olein (RPOL) and refined palm stearin (RPS) were stored in three conditions: kept away in dark (at 20-25 °C, acclimatized environment); in a refrigerator (4-8 °C); and at room temperature (26-32 °C), exposed to natural light. Free fatty acids (FFA; %), peroxide value (meq O2/kg), inducti

3. Identification and antifungal susceptibility of Candida species isolated from the urine of patients in a university hospital in Brazil
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to identify Candida spp. isolated from candiduria episodes at a tertiary hospital in the Midwest region of Brazil, and to determine their susceptibility profiles to antifungal compounds. From May 2011 to April 2012, Candida spp. isolated from 106 adult patients with candiduria admitted to the University Hospital of the Fede

5. Molecular profiling of drug resistant isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil
Drug resistance is a global threat and one of the main contributing factors to tuberculosis (TB) outbreaks. The goal of this study was to analyse the molecular profile of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. Fifty-three MDR Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical isolates were analysed by spoligotyping and a partial

6. In house reverse membrane hybridisation assay versus GenoType MTBDRplus and their performance to detect mutations in the genes rpoB, katG and inhA
Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) threatens global TB control and is a major public health concern in several countries. We therefore developed a multiplex assay (LINE-TB/MDR) that is able to identify the most frequent mutations related to rifampicin (RMP) and isoniazid (INH) resistance. The assay is based on multiplex polymerase chain reaction, membrane hybr

7. Caracterização taxonômica de espécies do gênero Xanthomonas / Taxonomic characterization of Xanthomonas species
Xanthomonas species are responsible for diseases causing economic losses in many crops. These phytopathogens have been subject of several taxonomic studies resulting in significant changes at interespecific or infraspecific level. This study aimed the taxonomic characterization of Xanthomonas species including: (1) differentiation and phylogenetic analysis o

8. Characterization of pathogenic Aeromonas veronii bv. veronii associated with ulcerative syndrome from Chinese longsnout catfish (Leiocassis longirostris Günther)
273 bacterial strains were isolated from 20 Chinese longsnout catfish samples. The biochemical characteristics of all strains conformed to the species description of Aeromonas veronii bv. veronii on the basis of Vitek GNI+ card. Furthermore, 16S rDNA, gyrB and rpoD sequences of the representative strain PY50 were sequenced and showed high similarity with A.

10. Localization of Pantoea ananatis inside lesions of maize white spot disease using transmission electron microscopy and molecular techniques.
The etiological agent of maize white spot (MWS) disease has been a subject of controversy and discussion. Initially the disease was described as Phaeosphaeria leaf spot caused by Phaeosphaeria maydis. Other authors have suggested the existence of different fungal species causing similar symptoms. Recently, a bacterium, Pantoea ananatis, was described as the
