2. Mycorrhization and grafting improve growth in the tomato and reduce the population of Nacobbus aberrans

3. Development of a propidium monoazide-polymerase chain reaction assay for detection of viable Lactobacillus brevis in beer
ABSTRACT The spoilage of beer by bacteria is of great concern to the brewer as this can lead to turbidity and abnormal flavors. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for detection of beer-spoilage bacteria is highly specific and provides results much faster than traditional microbiology techniques. However, one of the drawbacks is the inability to diffe

4. DETECTION OF MASSES IN MAMMOGRAPHY IMAGES USING CELLULAR NEURAL NETWORKS, STATISCAL FUNCTIONS VECTOR MACHINES AND SUPPORT / DETECÇÃO DE MASSAS EM IMAGENS MAMOGRÁFICAS USANDO REDES NEURAIS CELULARES, FUNÇÕES GEOESTATÍSTICAS E MÁQUINAS DE VETORES DE SUPORTE
Breast cancer presents high occurrence frequency among the world population and its psychological effects alter the perception of the patients sexuality and the own personal image. Mammography is an x-ray of the mamma that allows the precocious detection of cancer, since it is capable to showing lesions in their initial stages, typically very small lesions i

5. Desenvolvimento de novas técnicas para redução de falso-positivo e definição automática de parâmetros em esquemas de diagnóstico auxiliado por computador em mamografia / Development of news technique for reduction of false-positive and automatic definition of parameters of mammograms for CAD schemes
This present work consists on the investigation of mammographic image characteristics for automatic determination of image processing parameters for a mammography computer aided diagnosis scheme (CAD) in order to get optimal performance. Additionally, using the results obtained on this first investigation, it was also developed a new technique for the reduct

Avaliação da eficácia da injeção da vacina de DNA HSP65 do Mycobacterium leprae em pacientes com estádio avançado de carcinoma epidermóide de cabeça e pescoço, em ensaio clínico de fase I/II / Effectiveness evaluation of the injection of the vaccine of DNA HSP65 of Mycobacterium leprae in patients with advanced stage head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in a phase I/II trial
Introduction: The squamous cell carcinoma of the head and advanced neck is an disease difficult to treat. Despite the advances in diagnosis and treatment in last the 30 years had not occurred major survival improvements. 10. Quantitative sputum culture as a means of excluding false positive reports in the routine microbiology laboratory
A relatively simple technique for sputum homogenization and dilution is described. Results show that this technique is reliable for isolation and quantitative culture of organisms from cases of chest infection. The technique has resulted in significant reduction in false positive reports, particularly when a system of interpretative reporting is utilized bas

11. Measurement of rotavirus-neutralizing coproantibody in children by fluorescent focus reduction assay.
A fluorescent focus reduction assay suitable for the measurement of rotavirus-neutralizing antibodies in the feces of children was developed. Of 408 stools tested, 7% showed false-positive neutralization, and the number of rotavirus serotypes neutralized by a fecal extract was proportional to the levels of antirotaviral immunoglobulin A in the extract.

12. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay detection of immunoglobulins G and M to Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus in vaccinated and naturally infected humans.
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were developed for detection of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgM antibodies to Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (VEE) virus in vaccinated and naturally infected humans. A total of 441 sera found negative for VEE antibodies by plaque reduction neutralization were examined by IgG ELISA and gave a 1.0% false-positive
