2. Minimal fresh gas flow sevoflurane anesthesia and postoperative acute kidney injury in on-pump cardiac surgery: a randomized comparative trial
Abstract Background Compound A is generated by sevoflurane when it reacts with carbon dioxide absorbers with strong bases at minimal fresh gas flow (FGF) and is nephrotoxic in animals. No conclusive data has shown increased risk in humans. The aim of this study was to investigate if minimal FGF promotes an increase in the incidence of acute kidney injury (A

3. Thirty-day Outcomes of On-Pump and Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: an Analysis of a Brazilian Sample by Propensity Score Matching
Abstract Introduction: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) performed with and without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) support has been widely discussed in the literature. However, little is known about the outcomes of those techniques in Brazil. This study aims at exploring 30-day mortality and morbidity outcomes of on- and off-pump isolated CABG in a large

4. Systemic immune-inflammation index as a novel predictor of atrial fibrillation after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the predictive role of systemic immune-inflammation index on postoperative new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting. METHODS: A total of 722 patients undergoing elective off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting between January 2017 and September 2021 were inc

5. A Retrospective Study of the Relationship Between Blood Transfusion and 30-Day Postoperative Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Isolated Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
ABSTRACT Introduction: The objective of this single-center study it to retrospectively analyze the relationship between transfusion and 30-day postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing isolated off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting. Methods: Perioperative data of 2,178 patients who underwent isolated off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting from 201

6. Giant Epicardial Cyst Eroding Left Ventricular Wall Mimicking as Simple Pericardial Cyst
Abstract Epicardial cysts are rarer benign tumors than pericardial cysts. There have been few reports on surgical management of epicardial cysts. A 17-year-old normotensive boy presented with chest pain and palpitations, which on evaluation was found to be a mediastinal mass (pericardial cyst). Surgical resection of the cyst via thoracotomy was planned. The

7. Intraoperative fluid balance and cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury: a multicenter prospective study
Abstract Background Recent data suggest the regime of fluid therapy intraoperatively in patients undergoing major surgeries may interfere in patient outcomes. The development of postoperative Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) has been associated with both Restrictive Fluid Balance (RFB) and Liberal Fluid Balance (LFB) during non-cardiac surgery. In patients undergo

8. Optimizing the recovery of peripheral blood mononuclear cells trapped in leukoreduction filters - A comparison study
Abstract Introduction The isolation of captured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNCs) from leukoreduction filters (LRFs) can be of great importance in terms of bringing the lost cells back into use. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate various methods based on their potential to recover the peripheral blood cells from LRFs with a focus on

9. Short-Term Results of Ivabradine versus Metoprolol: The Effects on Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
ABSTRACT Introduction: Classic coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery involves diastolic cardiac arrest under cardiopulmonary bypass, while off-pump CABG (OPCABG) has become widespread in recent years. Methods: 174 patients who underwent OPCABG were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups. Group I (n=90) received ivabradine and

10. Predictive Value of QT Interval for Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
ABSTRACT Introduction: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (poAF) is a common complication of coronary artery bypass grafting, and its reasons are still the subject of research. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether QT interval is related to new onset of poAF occurrence. Methods: This study included 167 patients undergoing elective isolated off-pump

Abstract Introduction: The objective of this study was to identify risk factors for deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) after off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) grafting surgery. Methods: A total of 8,442 patients undergoing OPCAB from April 1, 2009 to December 31, 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 956 were eventually enrolled on this stu

12. Optical sorting technology for waste management from the Boukhadra iron ore mine (NE Algeria)
Abstract Mining processes in the iron ore mine of Boukhadra, Tebessa (NE Algeria) generated thousands of tons of mining wastes every year, which represents a real threat to the environment, leading to hazardous effects for the resident population of the region. The aim of this study is the selective sorting of the Boukhadra mining wastes for valorization. Th
